Thinking of giving up on the new T4R

I was really looking forward to the new model, but It seems Toyota is making the Toyota line interiors so lame in order to drive sales to Lexus. I never thought I would say this years ago, but Toyota should get a clue from Ford. I think I will go with the new F150 as it has an interior and exterior that is aimed at utility, not metrosexuality, if that is a word. BTW, Toyota could have easily gone this route and dominated the SUV segment.

Trade will come to a halt within the next 2 years. " and "He will be lucky to find a gas station open once the swine flu hits"... Some of your crazier statements!!:wtf:

We'll see if your Ford lasts as long as a Toyota and check the resale of your F150 in about 3 years.Good Luck!We'll miss you!

And by the way,the Prado GX is real nice.......at $60k US it should be.

You are comparing a pick-up to an SUV, so I'm not sure what you are trying to say. Funny how you did not mention looking at the Explorer. I just traded my '03 Explorer in with a bad transmission (no third gear), and replaced the transmission in my '96 Mercury Sable two times before it died a third time and traded it in on the lousy Explorer. That's Ford for you.

The fit and finish on the 5th Gen is much better than anything Ford has. I've driven some of the new Ford products out there and none of them come close to the excitement you get when you drive the 5th Gen.

I would spend a little more time reading all the posts here before you make your decision. You will find a lot of happy owners who are still excited about their vehicles. I lost excitement in my Explorer after about two weeks.

How is the new 4Runner interior "metrosexual"? The Prado (GX) is all soft touch materials with a somewhat feminine design.

The 4Runner interior has a very solid, practical feel and design to everything inside.

My only complaint is the location of the window switches, but that is because I'm used to my GTI.

Ford has* been doing the opposite: their Lincoln interiors haven't been much better than the equivalent Ford product, which makes you wonder why anyone would buy the Lincoln.

* This may be changing -- take a look at the 2011 Lincoln MKX‎. Very nice interior.

Speaking of the Prado.Here's a new pretty cool video out on the 2010 Prado.Not a big fan of the grill but it's body is styled more like it's sister , the Lexus GX460. Most likely same frame and 4wheel set up as our 5th's though.

Now that looks like fun!

OMG, I can't believe the thread title I just read. I need to get my eyes checked. No way! I'm having a heart attack 30-40 years sooner. I haven't written my will to pass my non-lame looking 4th gen to my heirs. :jk:

I guess this is better than having buyer's remorse.

I think the interior looks great and has a premium feel. All of the buttons feel great when pressing them. The air vents open, turn and close smoothly. The dial for the volume, tuning, and manual ventilation system are big and chunky and fun to turn - and several positions are available. The steering wheel feels extremely thick and love the bump outs in the 2 and 10 o'clock positions. Love the look of the top of the dash and it's very solid.

My only gripe about the interior is the screen on the radio (SR5). With the reversed amber screen (background amber, text black), it's difficult to see the screen during the daytime when it's raining and the lights are on. It's also difficult to see when wearing sunglasses.

the issues i have with the new '10 4runner compared to my old '04 v8 4runner SE:

1. i can live without the v8 in the 5th gen

2. i cant deal with having to buy a limited to get the same drive train that my cheapy '04 SE v8 had (why do i need to spend around 38-42k retail price for the same drivetrain that my 04 v8 se had for 32k retail price)

3. the window controls for the driver are just in a awkward location compared to the old version

4. they finally got rid of the star controls on the 4th gen (imo the most stupid layout of buttons, should have use the KISS method)

5. a few years back i had to let go of the 04 runner, but i was so hoping the '10 was even close to what i was looking for but sadly i had to move on. we did get a '09 rav4 v6 and still have the '06 v6 taco and my replacement for the 04 runner was a '10 legacy 3.6r

I think alot of us would like to see the Prado here, but price it in Aus, UK, South Africa, convert to USD......
Its deep in GX460 territory and the GX (with options) has more features than a Prado VX, higher grade leather etc and a V8 (not offered in a Prado), so the GX460 is a bargain in the US.... Buy that if you want it all.

The Prado is a higher content vehicle than the 4Runner and is in the premium segment in the markets where it is sold and where Lexus GX's are not offered.
Stepping down from it on those markets you go to a Rav 4 or Fortuner.
I drove in a Fortuner this Christmas while in SA, and its fit and finish was top notch, it fealt more premium than my 4th Gen 4R or 5th Gen's I have tested. Solid, refined, quiet, climate control AC, leather etc
but....
Loaded Fortuner in SA - R400,000 ($50,000); Prado VX R600,000 ($75,000). Eye watering stuff.

So what do you get for $35,000 in those markets? - Well mostly an entry level Rav4 and it will be a 2.0 4cyl... Well now the 2010 4Runner looks like a giveaway even if you dont like its boxy body and interior styling.

Its all about price, but whatever you buy here, its the best bargain in the world for what you are getting.....

Are you kidding? by no means am I hating on 4runners, but the king ranch package for ford is by far the best looking interior of any truck/suv IMO. I don't think anybody would look inside a limited 4runner, then look inside a king ranch, and then say the 4runner is nicer.

In my opinion you should compare King Ranch with Tundra and 2010 4runner with 2010 Ford Explorer. By the way I like Ford design and I was driving Fords for past 10 years, but fell in love with 5th gen 4Runner when I saw it : )

A King Ranch Ford pickup is a upscale model more like a Lexus. A 4runner is a working mans more basic vehicle.
