Thinking of making the switch...FJ to 4runner

Hey im from over at fjcruiserforums.com and ive had my FJ for about 2 years now, of course ive dumped tons of money in it. Bumper, skids, lift, wheels, all the good stuff...but it looks like i may be gettin engaged here soon and ive really been looking at the 4runner...its a full 4 doors and has more room also...i just dont know exactly which one to get cause when i bought my FJ i got a bunch of packages and stuff i really didnt need so i figured id see what everyone on here has to say...of course ill be liftin it if i get on but i wont do as much as i did to my FJ...maybe...lift tires wheels and see how that goes...so any opinions???

While I prefer the 4Runner to the FJ (for all the reasons that you've suggested), you will lose a ton of money trading in your FJ, and if you are getting engaged, you will need that money.

Keep your FJ and run it into the ground.

well i was thinkin of stripping the FJ and sellin everything since i still have all the OEM stuff...i know i will still lose money but im just sick of this ridiculously high payment....

you've thought this thur. it's a pain/work to sell a car so if you're motivated enough (sounds like it), handle your business.

i bought an '03 V8 limited a few years ago with 65K and i'd never trade it in for an FJ. it's that good. still.

thanks bud...im really wanting a T4R bad...and one good thing is some of the stuff im takin off the FJ will fit the T4R...ive either been lookin at a limited or a sport edition not sure which one yet just lookin for a good deal

You might not want a sport due to the X-Reas system... X-Reas makes it more difficult to do a large lift... just keep that in mind.

I wasn't talking about the aftermarket stuff. You lose money when you trade in vehicles. And if you can't afford your current payment, how can you afford a new vehicle?

ok smartass i know u lose money when u trade thats why im plannin on sellin all the stuff on it and then sellin the FJ...not trading it in...and as for affording a new vehicle i could go get one right now if i wanted...money isnt an issue at all...its just that high payment i get tired of and if i get a T4R the payment would almost be cut in half...so before u go jumpin into something that u have no idea about u should prolly get ur **** straight

My friend's girl has an FJ and it's a good vehicle, but just not what I'd want. IF you intend on moving 4 people around, the 4runner is much better. mroe room, 4 doors, and not a pain for the back passengers to get in and out. As far as ride I think it's much better than the tacoma 4 door (leaf springs in back) and even better than the FJ. I think you'll be really happy with the 4runner and it's still the same realiable engineand everything.

XREAS doesn't really make it more difficult to do a large lift because a large lift means ditching the XREAS system anyways....

If you're doing a big lift, then you'll either be ditching the XREAS shocks (if you have them) or the standard shocks if you don't have XREAS. Either way, you'll be replacing them. The big disadvantage to ditching the XREAS shocks is the wasted money from the extra cost that you'll pay to have them in the first place.

Since you posted this thread in the 4th gen forum and you're talking about a payment that is 1/2 of your current FJ payment, I'm guessing that you're talking about buying a used 4th gen, right?

I didn't think he was out of line because what you were eluding to is really none of your business. If the man wants to trade for a smaller payment, that is for him to figure out and not for you to question. I can see how he got upset. Both of your posts on the subject were out of line in my opinion. He come here questioning the 4runner options, not to be quizzed or drilled about what his financial situation is.

well i wont be doing a big lift...just a complete 3in...ill be puttin my ICON Stage I on the T4R...so everything will be replaced

Don't let Xreas on the Sport model keep you from getting one. If you don't like it and don't want it then just take it out, it's not a big deal to remove and put in your choice of schocks. (EDIT ^^ I see you're aware of xreas.

The 4th Gen is a very good, reliable vehicle and if you're FJ isn't meeting your needs then the 4runner is a very good option and an upgrade in a lot of ways.

I plan on getting an FJ when the kids are grown and on their own.......18 years from now

well im not dowing the FJ at all cause its been a very impressive vehicle and its a BEAST offroad...but the 4runner is kinda kinda fallin into the category of fittin my needs better for my future...i still plan to do some mild wheeling when i get the 4runner but nothing like ive done in the FJ...its just about time for me to start thinkin more about havin a family and being easier to get a car seat in and out of the backseat than climbing up a rockledge...:lmao:
