Third Gen 4Runner or 96-98 Landcruiser

Trying to decide between the 2, both cost about the same on the used market and both are good rigs. Will use primarily for commute and the occasional road/camping trip with wife, 2 boys and 1 dog.

Well it's a tough call. Seems you say both cost about the same I would assume you would be looking at a 99 and up Runner, so right off the bat you could get the Runner newer with fewer miles. The Cruiser years you give are varied, a 96 would have a SFA and 4.5 I6 while the 97 and up would have IFS and a V8, so which Cruiser were you thinking. If you want to use it to get to back country camping spots either rig would be fine, a 96 Cruiser locked front and rear would probably be best off road, then a rear locked 3rd gen and then a newer Cruiser. The newer Cruiser will ride better, the Runner will get better mileage, the Cruiser is way bigger. I guess it all depends on your needs.

if its a commuter car, id go with the runner... a cruiser gets like 10-13 mpgs!

I used to own a 1994 LC with 176k not locked, it was great, now I'm on my third 3rd gen 4rnr. Its a 99 and it too is great. Gas mileage on both sucks regardless, and if your looking for a daily driver i would get the 4rnr only because when it comes to service on th LC its going to be pricey. Oh yeah and you gotta love the roll down window on the 4rnr.

Thanks for the info. What are you guys getting in MPG for your rigs? The official info is 17/20, is that pretty accurate?

Also found a brown 98 Limited with 110k miles for $11,700, OK deal?

I would say the average MPG based on what others get would be around 16-17 mpg on average. For me, with about city/highway 30%/70%, I get around 17.1 mpg.
