Third Row seating storage ideas

I have a 2011 Limited with the third row seating. I rarely us the third row seating but it is nice to have the option every now and then. I am wondering what people are doing for storage solutions out there. Would love some suggestions.

Although I use the seats only a few times a year they do come in handy....so I was looking to leave them in place and not remove them.

gotcha... well the options are the same as the rest I think just that we have a few inches less in cargo height. removable pull out drawer system has been on my mind and I have been toying around with removing 1 seat of the 3rd row and converting the cavity left into storage

Ok...that is what I kind of figured. I have seen the ARB ones as a popular choice in the forums. Do you know of any others to look at? I am trying to keep it simple and removable. If I have to make my own in the end that would not be a deal breaker. I was just more wondering what options people were using out there if any.

I've been putting stuff in the seat wells of the 3rd row. There's not a ton of space, but enough to put a 1st aid kit and jumper cables in there.

Right now I just have a bin tied down in the back to throw things into. I think I am going to end up making what I want. The more I look around the more I see that what I want is either too big or too heavy to move around.

I just need enough storage for jumper cables, first aid kit, small tool bag, flash light, and small other small camping gear. I try to keep the weight down since day to day I do not need it.

It would be just nice to have something that does not take up too much space in back and still be removable when I need the third row seats.

My "storage solution" is called a bag.

Sometimes I need multiple "storage solutions" in which case I put multiple bags into the back of the truck.

You need more variety. I have a "bag" that holds quite a bit of my stuff, and I also have a "milk crate" to hold the rest.

Crates tend to slide around on the liner :zoom: and I'm too lazy to properly bungee them in place.

Besides, I have a whole "storage system" which, in technical language, is based on "take stuff and pile it in". It also has a super-turbo mode which modifies the above-mentioned algorithm to execute as "take stuff and shove it in".

I'm pretty happy with my storage system so far.

I also have a 2011 Limited with a 3rd row. Used to put everything in a big plastic bin, but it slid around too much, took up too much space, and I couldn't use one of the 3rd row seats. I've since switched to a duffel bag and it's so much better.

Fits everything that was in the bin previously and doesn't slide around at all. It takes up less space and is much easier to take out. For what it's worth, I keep jumper cables, breaker bar, ratchet straps, full 3/8" and 1/2" socket set, screwdrivers, duct tape, hatchet, MV50 compressor, fire extinguisher, and a ton of other miscellaneous stuff.

When I need both 3rd row seats, I just take everything out of the bag and place them through the rear window between the rear of the seats and the tailgate. Just gotta remember they're back there before opening the rear.

I use the contents of the duffel as often as I use the 3rd row. So it's no big inconvenience when I need to utilize either.

I like this, mine is quite similar. I added a custom energy saving mode I call "don't take the stuff out in the first place". It's working well for me.

I thought about your system at length. After pondering profusely on this subject, I determined there was only one way to improve on your cleverness and I have implemented a new system that will change the paradigm of ultimate storage solutions: Ready?
1. I determine what I need to haul
2. I do not put it in the 4Runner.

Therefore, I have just as much space as when I started and nothing moves around. Simple.

It's elegant in it's simplicity. I think I can pare it down, though. Where Yotta's reads "put shit in truck at start of trip" and then "put shit in truck fast at start of trip", and I added "don't take shit out of truck at end of trip", yours could merely read "don't pack shit".

Wow....nice to see I am not the only one. I have been using a bin that I just bungee cord to hold in place. It is ok but I have been pondering if there is something better out there.

The bin is thin plastic so the cord is starting to warp it. I do like the idea of switching to a bag instead.

I use a duffel bag as well. I just throw it at the kids' feet when I need the third row seating.
