This tow hitch is turning into a nightmare!

So, after having picked up the Weight-dist hitch, picking up the bolts for it, removing my old one, now I'm stuck with, yet again, ANOTHER problem. The recov loop on the driver side of the frame is stuck in there, because the bolts are seized. I've been soaking it with PB blaster, and I've also hit the bolt head a few times with a hammer to free the rust. How fun, I can't get them out! Aside from keep trying to get the seized bolts out, are there any other ways I can get the damn thing off? (I would prefer to stay away from drill&retap, as that's even MORE hassle, lol).

Have you tried heat?
 
Heat that sucker up and hit it with more PB Blaster and then Impact, if that don't work... well there's always drillin' it out and tappin' it. LoL
 
Have you tried the craftsman rust bolt out kit? I love it. It has pieces that bite into the rusty bolt and will either break it free or sheer it off. If the head sheers off, then it wasn't going to come off then.
 
Take it up to Dobbs, ask them if you can borrow an impact, pull it out. It won't break off and they will either let you borrow an impact for two seconds or the will do it for free. After I broke those two heads off removing that thing this is what I did. It works.

Heat is a good thing here but it's not necessary. You just need torque.

You may have to chase the threads with a tap once your done.

Heat, impact, smack with a hammer for shock, PB Blaster, massively long breaker bar are my methods...oh and if you can do them all at the same time even better :p oh and the more of everything above the better, again all at once :p :p


Need to look into that Craftsman thing, I had a bolt on a buddies truck last year that beat me and I couldn't get out - have been pissed ever since LOL.

Have done all of these methods except the impact, I guess that's next, lol. I am surprised by how well my mom's Creme Brulee torch performed. It got that bolt hot. And yes, I yelled every swear word in the book at the thing. It didn't seem to appreciate it. I got it real hot and then doused the thing in like 4 fl Oz of PB lol.
 
Go to harbor freights buy an electric impact and IMPACT sockets. If you use a regular socket you will break it and cause minor to severe damage to yourself. Those regular sockets don't care where they go when flying into pieces. If that doesn't work then torch it off!
 
Trade it in for a 4runner that comes with a factory installed hitch.

Or, take a drive down to your local shop and give them a few bucks to zip that bolt off with an impact wrench, easy peasy :)

Lol, no! I've spent too much time at this point work towards a 4wd conversion to turn back!
 
Simple as this, go get a impact socket of the size bolt it is on a 1" drive.
Go down to a tire shop that changes big rig ties and use there 1" impact.

Or drive to my house and you can use mine.
