This tow hitch is turning into a nightmare!

Try a bigger torch. The propane one at lowes is decent but Ive recently switched to mapp torches and have broken off fewer bolts that way. Good luck!
 
I forgot to add that I always get the bolt red hot then use a spray bottle with water about 3-4 times it usually does the trick.
 
Decided to give a cheater pipe another chance today after school, as I had let (basically) the entire world's supply of PB blaster soak in over night after heat, and some in the morning. To my dismay, the bolts ended up becoming rounded off. They're not a circle by any means, so I think if I can assure the bolts are getting loose(r) I could grind down the head a bit on each side to fit a smaller socket around it. Any other ideas now? (other than drill and retap?) :/

is there a nut on the other side of these bolts?

heat would have been your friend if the head wasn't rounded

I have used them with a 3' breaker bar to loosen rusted bolts. It's hard to say, but I have had good luck

I got them as a gift from dad, he said I would eventually need them. He was right, turned out to get alot of use. Safer than stripping bolt heads completely.

They should, I got some rounded off bolts off the flywheel of a sbc using a similar tool, the Irwin ones they sell at advance auto
 
PB blaster is the biggest joke on the internet. You will NEVER get a bolt lose with the nonsense, EVER. I don't know why people always suggest it like it is a miracle fluid.

Heat, heat, and more heat along with a strong air Impact is how you solve a rust weld issue. If it is drivable, just stop by a local shop and challenge a tech to break it lose for you. A few dollars there can save you a lot of time an aggravation.

I don't know about it being God's gift to man, but I've had PB Blaster work better than WD-40 for rusted bolts and rotors.

Granted my testing is rather simple...

-Smack rotor with hammer hard enough to worry about cracking it, rotor doesn't budge
-Spray PB Blaster all over the mounting surface of the rotor, come back 5-10 minutes later and smack it with hammer 4/5 times "POP!" comes off nice and easy.

Though there was some study someone floated on the forum for a while about half ATF and Acetone I think it was being the BEST rust penetrant? But I don't think we ever got around to testing it out.
 
You get that thing on yet? If you get too mad at it I can swing by with an angle grinder and we can go all Office Space on it.

Lol, not yet. I tried to knock out my melted dash trim. Dupe-licolor sure duped me with a "perfect match" paint. So I'm leaning toward black now. Anywho, I may have time tomorrow, if not next weekend. I guess if you're free tomorrow shoot me a text.

Unfortunately I do... I worked on European vehicles in Sweeden for a short time as well as my previous vehicle before the 4Runner (Zombie Truck 1.0) was a '93 S10 Blazer from the East coast, took about 2-3 hours to remove the O2 Sensor, we finally grabbed the oxy-acetylene torch from the welding department (was a TA in the Auto Department for a couple years) with a rose bud and got it pretty much red hot and quenched it with PB Blaster to get that sucker to crack loose.

Suffice to say, my general response when it comes to rust-band cars is, "&^#% that noise!" LoL

But most of the times I resort to PB Blaster is in fact on those non-California cars and it makes a big difference helping get stuff off.

I agree with the heat part. get that sucker glowing orange, it will come off.

I don't agree about the pb blaster tho. it works wells.

yep, this is my experience with it also. good stuff. not the best, but it does work.
