Enjoyed that video! I like to watch people who can do things that I can't and save things that I couldn't. He's the man! Welding and fabricating is a real art.
Granted some people better than others, but it cost me $1K to have two relatively small plates welded to my frame where I had holes.

Anybody else notice that although they "primed" the pieces they put on (didn't look like primer to me), they didn't put any kind of corrosion resistant finish on the inside of the patch panels? They also finished bare / sand blasted metal in other places with just undercoating. Both are a recipe for future corrosion.

Have to rust inhibitors or you are correct it rots back out

In total salt land of quebec, my 4runner's frame is top notch
There is someone in here that uses heavy coats of WD-40 + drying cycles and seems to work also
After I paint the outside of the frame. So it can see what is going on with the steel.

That is so bad. Anyone looking to buy any used vehicle if you live in a rust area fly to a place that’s salt free and drive it home. I live in New England and I saw a good looking excursion. Paint was immaculate as was the interior. Then I looked underneath, it was so rusted when the car dealer came out I told him this truck wasn’t worth ten dollars let alone ten thousand.

The frame is solid again. That's what matters. As rotted as that was he cleaned the frame out well . That's what needs to happen. You have to cut the cancer out and rebuild the frame. We also need to clean the inside of the frame out too. That's what he did. Then welded it all together.
I do it similarly except I weld all my plate in the inside of the frame and weld all the hole shut.
Probably better to put the plate seams at 45 degree angels instead of vertical. I done horizontal as well for simplicity reasons. Planting all internal keeps the frame cleaner and leave the ability to change body mounts etc.
That video makes me want to go get a lift..lol

I bought my 4Runner without even seeing it on EBay from New Jersey and had it shipped to California (ya we didn’t know what we were doing lol). I got very lucky… I could’ve gotten something like what was in the video but the truck was actually really clean. It has some rust here and there mainly on brackets and the rear of the car but the frame is pretty clean.
That’s the extent of my problems plus a bunch of brackets here and there.
