So here my super slow moving build thread. I picked this baby up for $500 sight unseen. It's an '86 22re Auto DLX.
Here's the up to date pic:
Someone has done some shabby rust repair on the rear wheel wells. Also the front fenders are shot. The truck had the chrome fender trim and I believe that's pretty much the culprit of the rust. A couple little rust holes are pretty much the extent of the rust. The frame seems pretty solid. Here in Eastern Va. we don't see much snow so trucks last a little longer here, just the occasional hurricane flooding our streets with salt water is about the harshest season we have. Here's what I've done to the truck up to date.
-fixed the busted out back glass
-fuel pump and fuel pump bracket replaced
-A lot of shop vac work removing the pounds of dog hair from the int.
-timing chain/guides, water pump, oil pump
-valves adjusted to quiet the tick (not gone but much quieter than most Yotas)
-4" Trailmaster lift kit with all new front end parts (ball joints, tie rods, rotors, brakes, calipers)
-put my 32" Mud Claws/Centerlines on her for the time being
-removed 1980's pushbar
-pillar pod with digital tach, OP, and WT gauges
-new CV Axles
-Spartan locker in the rear
-glass H4 housings with upgraded headlight wiring harness
-Fitted 2nd gen front and rear seats in the truck
Things to do in my desired order:
-Tint front windows
-Body work and paint (this will be a trail rig so I will be painting this truck myself so no show quality work but I've done a lot of painting and I can lay it down pretty good) Planning on going back with the factory blue.
-35" KM2's
-Gears if they are absolutely needed with the tires, but would like to hold off until the SAS is do-able.
-Air locker up front
-Interior (new carpet, diamond plate panels, build cargo area organizer)
-Build my own one-off tube bumpers/sliders
-Softtopper (if the money frees up this will move up the list as far as possible)
-The almighty SAS. Plans are the whole TG 4"swap kit and 4" rear springs with a beefed up stock housing.
-Find a decent 22re and rebuild the bottom end, new head and cam, header.
I'm sure. I will add little stuff along the way but this is my overall goal. My plan is to have as little down time with this truck as possible which is why I'd like to find a motor and rebuild it while I'm still driving the truck so maybe me and some buddies could swap it out in a weekend. Other than my huge box truck I use for work this is my only wheels. Also I'd like to do my homework and have everything needed for the SAS ready to go when it's time. I know that's nothing I want to rush and half-ass but I really don't want to take forever doing it either. Any opinions and suggestions are always welcome.
