Those Looking To Change Cabin Air Filter

So it was time to replace my cabin air filter, it had a good amount of debris that had accumulated since I replaced it last fall for the first time after owning my 4th gen.

I've read pros and cons of the FRAM FreshBreeze cabin air filter, style # CF9846A, but wanted to try it either way. I was elated to find a good price on Wal-Mart's website at $15.15, and I chose in store pickup. This is less expensive than other online retailers, even amazon.

Here's the kicker, both Wal-Marts in my area have the in-store price listed at $18.54 before tax. A simple order online at the online price allowed me to drive over to Wally world on my lunch break and pick up the filter for $16.54 after tax...more than two dollars cheaper than the in-store price. I did pay for it online when I ordered it, but Wally has the option to pay in store also. Just a head up for anyone needing to change the cabin air filter. I'll report back on how it works as time goes on, although it seems the issues people report normally arise in colder temps with the carbon in the filter...it's been in the 80s lately here though.

I had something similar happen to me once. I was picking up a sewing machine for my mom for her b-day. The online (instore pick up) was $30 cheaper than what the store price was. They wouldn't give it to me for the online price, so I pulled out my phone ordered it online then followed the guy to customer service as he pulled one from the shelf.

I have that same Fram cabin filter, it works great, and really helps with the mildew smell in the heater. I got mine on ebay I believe

Apparently Wally will price match too. I've not done it, but my friend explained he has been able to show them a competing lower price and they have matched it.

It's worked well for me for years but I live in the desert.

I do recall someone not liking it and saying they didn't think it worked well in a humid climate.

In colder temps it might not be good for it, but we'll have to see. In KC it gets pretty humid in the summer months. Here's what [MENTION=881]Paul[/MENTION]B had to say in this thread.

Keep in mind this was installed in a Camry. It could render different results from the hvac intake and distribution setup.

Where do you live? If you are in a cold weather climate the Fram Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter may not be good, I live in the Twin Cities.

My experience is with my wife's Camry, I replaced the cabin filter with the Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter thinking it was better because of the active carbon. In the winter when the filter was cold and after driving through a car wash I noticed the windows fogging over real bad. I tried the defrost that activates the recirulate and AC to dry out the air but to no avail. I also noticed the air pressure was low coming out of the vents and that lead me to pull out up the cabin filter which was wet. After I got home I dried the filter with a hair dryer and placed it back in the car. Several weeks later it happened again and that is when I removed the Fram and replaced it with a Napa branded cabin filter and it has never happened since.

It is my opinion when the carbon or charcoal is cold it meets any warm humid air it condenses onto the filter's charcoal and becomes wet.
