Those of you running Morimoto's..

Hey everyone,

I recently purchased a Morimoto 35W HID kit with one of their Motocontrol Bixenon wiring harnesses. The harnesses on each side for the high beam control were different, so I ended up chopping each of them off and installing spade connectors. However, I am having issues with getting my high beams to work. When I go to flip the high beams on, the fog lights shut off like they are supposed to, however the low beams just stay on and the headlights don't get any brighter.

I swapped the blue and white wires like the Morimoto install guide suggested, but all that did was immediately blow the high beam fuse. I also swapped the ground and low beam wire (something suggested to me on the Facebook page), but once again all that did was pop another fuse.

Does this problem sound familiar to anybody, and if so what did you do to fix the issue? I emailed TRS to see if they have any suggestions, but thought I'd ask here as well.

Are you running bi xenon projectors like their H1 or D2s kit? Or did you just put the HIDs in your stock reflector housing?

Do you have any pictures? I have a kit I haven't put in yet but I did test it and it worked for low and high beams.

Someone else asked a second ago also but did you get bi-xenon projectors? There is a really small plug that comes off the projectors. I forget exactly where it plugs in but that's the controller for "high-beams". It basically activates a flap that moves up when you turn your highs on. The light output only changes so there is no longer a cut-off and it lights up much higher.

Yeah they are bixenon projectors. That's what I was getting at when I was talking about the fact that I had to put spade connectors between the high beam portion of the harness and the plug on the projectors since they weren't the same style.

To me it sounds like you just spliced it so the stock headlight wires are connected to the projector hi beams. When I installed my moto control box there was a h4 connector in the harness that connected to the stock h4 plug. This went into the box and then it sends out a signal for the high beams.

No, I used the plug on the harness and attached it directly to the original H4 harness. I seem to be the only person in the world that's ever heard of this problem before

I'll have to get some photos to show you guys what I'm talking about.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe the shutters on the projectors aren't operating correctly, though it seems odd that neither of them are working.

Something seems off about this. When I did my retro on this truck it was plug and play. I used the Motocontrol H4 harness. You shouldn't have had to modify anything.

Let's see what you've got. TRS is fantastic on their service, so if there was a mess up (which happens) they'll come good on it.

This is all of the stuff I'm running.

You can check to see if the solenoid that runs the shroud is working. Just take a 9 volt battery and touch it to the leads coming out of the projector. You'll hear a pretty audible click if it is working right.

Okay... I think I've got this one figured out (partly):

The projectors you picked up would have shipped with a molex connector for the shroud solenoid. TRS builds all of their bixenon harnesses with 9006 connectors on their trigger because they also use that on the projector side (because... reasons. I'm sure Matt had his reasons.)

Anyway, I ran in to this on a Dodge Ram I did last year. They used to sell a conversion harness that was plug and play.

Now, where I would go from here: Pull those spade connectors and grab a 9V battery like Black798 suggested. Test the trigger wires against the battery. If it's good then the shroud will get moving. If they are triggering, then I would check the wiring (as you pulled the connectors and you never know), and then the high-beam light on the dash. I have heard anecdotally that there can be high-beam issues sometimes.

That being said, I would put my money on DOA projectors...

Yea I'd put money on the projectors not being wired up right or just non functioning. You should definitely reconsider getting TRS H1 or D2s.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The reason I bought these cheap projectors was because originally I did a budget retrofit. I was using a Xentec 55W kit until I decided to return everything due to bulb flicker issues.

The high beams worked perfectly with this setup.

I then realized I missed having HIDs so I ponied up the cash to buy good stuff, and that's where we currently stand. I'll test the high beam shutter tonight and see if I can come up with anything.

Alright, so after some testing tonight, I can hear the passenger side working when I hook a 9v battery up to it, but no dice on the driver's side. That still doesn't explain why the high beam shouldn't at least be working on the passenger side.
