Thought of putting the 4.0 in.

If you register the car in CA it has to maintain smog equipment. That's how certain engine swaps in CA are legal.

Oh I see, well I'm keeping it Texas registered. I still have 6 years on the plates I have and I'm able to register online so no worries haha. But I will be keeping the smog equipment on just to maintain the OEM value for what it's worth if that makes sense.

So who would rather see me fit a 4bt in there? I just found a great price on some and it looks like I'll be going diesel instead. My only concern is weight. The 4bt weighs about 200lbs more then our 5vz.

4BT! I'd love to see this diesel swap. I wouldn't worry about the weight, you'll probably have to change to #700 coils in front though.

The highest spring rate Eibach makes in a 14 inch 2.5ID spring is a 650lb. I could probably get you a pair custom made at 700lb but i doubt you would even need it to be that high. I bet the 600lb would still be fine.

I'm running 550's on my 3rd gen with a ODL bumper, winch, skids, sliders, etc etc etc.

Looking forward to seeing the build!

I have a question regarding your use of 550lb springs. It seems like the vast majority of guys who have a lot of extra weight like bumpers, winch, armor, etc. are running 650lb springs and a few even bumping up to 700lb like stated above. But for me personally I would rather prefer a softer ride and the idea of running a 550lb seems intriguing, but based on most of the information I read and my interpretation of it, it seems like this is not ideal because the springs will sag and the coilover will need to be cranked even more so therefor the need for a heavier spring. But then I see guys like yourself and a few others with lots of extra weight run 550lb. So what gives? Feel free to PM me if OP would rather not clutter this thread.

I see, I have the 600lb springs right now.

If you're looking for power, why not supercharge, or even turbo the 5vzfe? The 3.4 seems to take really well to boost. Or are you wanting the experience of an engine swap?

It all depends on how you use your truck. I set mine up for most performance for wheeling so i went with the softer coil so the front would flex better. It is a softer ride but the valving in the BOSS coilover makes up for it in the bumps. If i were doing a lot of high speed stuff(IE baja/desert running), i would have gone with something a little stiffer.

Basically what i'm getting at is how do you want the truck to ride and how much weight do you have? A 550lb coil should ride about the same with no weight as a 600lb coil with bumper, winch, skids etc.

The height just comes down to preload and as long as you don't go over 3 inches of lift, preload actually has little effect on the ride.

Not sure if that helped or just made it more confusing :lmao:
