Thoughts on the new Tacoma--anyone have one?

I have been saving for a new car for the past couple years and I think, financially, I'm ready to pull the trigger.

For a while, I wanted a 2014+ tundra because of the size and power.

But now, I've been putting some serious thought into a 2016/17 Tacoma with a manual transmission. I really like that its a new 6 speed and from a lot of the reviews I've read, most people are satisfied with the power.

My main gripe with my '98 4runner is the severe lack of power. Cruising at 65 is fine, but when its loaded down and I'm driving cross country at 75-85 mph, the 4runner struggles.

So for anyone who has a new Tacoma, preferably a 6-speed MT, what are your thoughts/comparisons on power and highway driving compared to a 3rd gen 4runner?

Have a friend at work who wanted the new 2016+ Tacoma bad. He wasn't looking for a full size until he began comparing both it and the Tundra in pricing. He took a Tacoma for an overnight test drive and wasn't thrilled with the engine (from someone who had an 09 FJ) performance.

In the end for an extra $5K he bought a 4x4 sr5 Tundra. He said he can live with the low MPGs.
