FUYAO is an OEM supplier for many brands.
I haven't had any issues with Safelite in CO and they come to my house.
Thoughts on windshield repair gone bad?

i've used safelite many times. They do most of the work in the area.
a few repairs that were pretty good, and a oem replacement on a bmw. No problems with any, they were timely, and did work at my home.
All repairs have a disclaimer, that chip or crack might worsen with repairs.
Insurance company replaces all front glass free with no deductibles in NYS.

I've Fuyao right now and it has many mold flaws (ripples along upper edge). Look at yours closely under right light and angle. Safelite installed it crooked, Left Upper edge from the roof 5mm while Right Upper edge from the roof is 7mm and refuse to replace it properly. Store manager said that is within specs and looks like a good installation. When I asked what those "specs were" he didn't know. Like I said don't use them if you want your glass installed OEM right. They are Wallmart of glass installation industry.

I got a rock chip on the way home from work one evening and by the morning it had turned into a 6" crack. I was surprised as the outdoor temps at that time were pretty mild. The chip was right at the top of the windshield so they may not have fixed it anyway. So your crack may have been intentional or it may have just cracked super easily like mine did. I just chalked mine up to Toyota making bad windshields and had it replaced after living with it for about 6 months. Was kind of a bummer to have a new windshield put on my car when it was only 1 1/2 years old.

Unfortunately that is within specs:|
I have a gap, but no rippling.
Safelite is everywhere here, and if I use more expensive/OEM shops and glass my insurance goes up--even if I already have a glass replacement policy,

Ill check the brand later this evening.
20yrs driving here in AZ, 9 vehicles between wife and I, 5 windshields...4 on my 4R in the last 2 years :noidea:

If both sides were between 5 and 7 mm I can see that as acceptable but how is uneven gap (along the roof edge we are talking about) is acceptable? It looks crooked from inside even.

Customer owns car. Customer gets to decide what type of glass and who does the install. Insurance might not like it, but they can not tell you not to use OEM parts or dealership labor.
FYI, guess who goes to the dealership to install your OEM glass........whoever gives the cheapest quote to your dealership.(True story)
Only difference is, you get to argue with your dealership, not Safelite (or whoever whoever won the bid)

It would be hard to "control" an intentional crack and hide impact area. So most likely this:
When you get replacement insist on same brand as Toyota uses. Safelite had replaced mine with LOF brand which was not OEM for my Honda and it was badly distorted. Safelite replaced glass with same LOF brand glass under warranty with same results. Finally replaced with AP Tech upon my insistence and that fixed the distortion.

whatever you do, make sure u get OEM glass.
Satellite replaced a window on my previous honda, and the glass was wavy. When the sun light reflected off the window, it literally reflected light in all directions giving it a "ripple" effect that could be seen with the naked eye depending on how you viewed the glass. Of course when I brought it to satellites attention, they insisted that it was normal. BULLLLLLLLLSHH.......t

O.P., Make sure no paint is scratched in adhesion area and if you see a scratch make sure it's cleaned, primed and painted before glass replacement.
I've had relatively good experience with Safelite, both in San Diego and in Riverside Counties.
Early 2000s, when it replaced my Accord's with non-OEM an I found distortion... two replacement tries with non-OEM but eventually ended back with APTech. No hassle.
A couple of years ago, when windshield on my truck broke, San Diego tech came to my garage to remove old glass, gave me a few days to fix rusted areas and came back to re-install.
About a year later, I complained of leak Safelite in Riverside County did same. This time I took the time to clean adhesion area down to bare metal and prepped with POR-15.

Not true. Unless you pay extra for OEM glass coverage insurance companies only cover a certain price for glass replacement and it usually won’t be enough for OEM.
My window was replaced by the body shop at the dealership not a 3rd party glass company. My wife works at the dealership (20 years) and they do their own glass. Granted they are a very large multi-line dealer.

My friend, I've been there. It is true. I just had the wife's RAV4 windshield replaced. At the dealership with OEM Toyota Glass and Safelite came out and did the job in the dealers shop. The insurance company paid the whole bill, minus the deductible which was $50 for glass. Dealership wanted me to call and get "approval" from the insurance company first and I told them no, I want OEM glass and to fix and if the insurance balked I would pay the difference and settle with insurance after the fact.
Agree to disagree. We have safeco insurance and they wouldn’t cover an OEM windshield on my Lexus LS460. I wasn’t willing to cover the extra $500 so aftermarket it was.
on my 96 the windshield had no cracks OEM original 22 yrs old. problem was the glass was not clear had a yellow tint poor visibility. vehicle at body shop ,, owner sent picture to insurance company . insurance company paid the replacement.
Massachusetts glass is covered no deductibles my insurance co..
I do expect the 2016 4runner is in the near future , going to require a replacement since it is sooo thin ..
96 is much thicker and no cracks but did have a few whacks in it ..

Just go with a new windshield. With our 4Runners spending most of their time in Montana, you're replacing a windshield every two years. On our 2014 SR5 new windshields are $250. Don't care whether OEM or aftermarket, they all crack.
Now with the 2023 ORP having the damn forward camera, the windshields are $1,200. For $800 we got the dealer windshield insurance that covers 5 windshield over the course of 5 years. Just one or two and it pays for itself.

Had a ding scheduled for repair. I can’t help but think that the damage was turned into crack on purpose. Mobile repair btw.

Hey there, I totally get your concern about those unexpected cracks after scheduling a rock chip repair. It can be frustrating, can't it? I need to do this on a ‘94 K2500 Suburban. Rust around top of windshield that I need to clean up. Need the windshield removed and stored for a week while I clean it up and paint. Same with the rear quarter panel windows. Plan is to have roof and quarter panels prepped and primed up to around the windows, then pull the windows to to the rest and apply base and top coats, then have them come back to reinstall.
