Throttle not returning!

So my throttle is not coming all the way back to zero when I let off the gas. I replaced the return spring with a shorter spring but it's still doing the same thing. I know I could go even shorter with the spring or get a tighter spring but maybe somebody on here has a better idea. My mechanic just cleaned the throttle body so we can rule that out.

Sticky cable? Pull the throttle cable off the throttle body and see if it still does it.

If you look in the thread for our sold 89 4Runner in my signature and find a picture of the engine. We tied a piece of nylon cord to the butterfly valve and ran it to a conveniently placed hole in the firewall with an ordinary spring from the hardware store in the middle. A cheap, simple fix...

So my guess is that you guys tried replacing the return spring as well but got more leverage out of that setup?

The original spring was worn out and Toyota either didn't stock the part anymore or my dad just didn't want to make the trip to the dealer. But I do know that we just kept the original spring and it was fine with the extra one.

So I fixed it using chuckles metho in my own way. Speaker wire :/ an a stronger spring. Works very well. The gas pedal is a little bit more stiff but I like it.

Nice trick! I'll have to remember this one if mine ever stretches out. Hard to imagine though, as I have almost the opposite problem with my '86.

The pedal is very hard to press and hold down. Wears me out on long drives. I've replaced spring with one from a donor '87 and no change.

I had the same problem. I replaced the throttle cable and now it's smooth as can be
