Ticking Sound when driving

Whenever I drive close to walls and have my windows down, I can hear a ticking sound on both driver/passenger side... It sounds like its coming from both wheel housings. I am wondering if its just rocks stuck in the tire tread and hitting the pavement or maybe a exhaust manifold leak?

Could it be something with my tires? I had new tires installed about 3 months ago... Havent really noticed the ticking until about a month ago... Everything seems to run fine tho.

Does the ticking speed up and slow down along with vehicle speed? Have you inspected the treads for pebbles, or nails/screws or other foreign objects stuck in the tread? This is usually the case. I would check that out first before digging further since it's the most obvious thing to check.

Or, it's a bomb.

Check your calipers & see if you have 2 retaining clips for pads , I had heard same thing & saw a post about this . Easy fix if you don't have go to parts store & buy 2 more !

Does the ticking speed up and slow down along with vehicle speed? Have you inspected the treads for pebbles, or nails/screws or other foreign objects stuck in the tread? This is usually the case. I would check that out first before digging further since it's the most obvious thing to check.

It seems speed up along with speed. Me and my 4runner are in Africa, so there are rocks and pebbles everywhere. So I wouldnt doubt if I have a couple of pebbles in the treads... hopefully no nails or screws.. But I will look for that.

The retaining clips would make the ticking noise?
