time to embarass myself - solid v. IFS

Alright, I'll embarass myself. What is "RTI?" Since we are talking about articulation, I will am going to guess that RTI represents the amount in some fashion. And just curious why does the FJ Cruiser has a little more than a 4runner, and why does the GX have a lot more? Charlie

RTI = ramp travel index. Some info on this measurement: http://www.4lo.com/calc/rticalc.htm or http://www.landroverclub.net/Club/HTML/RTI.htm

FJC flexes better than 4runner because of smaller anti-roll (sway) bars. I think that Toyota also tweak the suspension a bit to get more travel (change in bushings, longer shocks, or something like that). But, the main contribution to FJC's flex is the smaller anti-roll bars as compared to 4runner.

The GX470 KDSS flexes better because of the KDSS system. The regular GX470 without KDSS flexes the same as 4runner. KDSS, in essence, disconnects the sway bar when off-roading...thus, increasing suspension travel.

A good set of lockers front and rear in an IFS vehicle can make up for a lot of the differences with a solid axle truck.

One more advantage of SA's...better durability (better withstanding stress from mechanical or terrain).
