Timing Belt Kit Help..??

Hey guys/gals.....first let me say Thank You....over the years this site has helped me through numerous maintinace questions and repaiars, and even saved a few nuckles from time to time owned a 89 V6 4x4 bought with 128k and sold with 267 still almost all original including clutch, currently owne a 97 V6 T4R...I've been lurking on this and other boards for a while and now have finally joined up and I need some help.

I've done some research and can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

Situation/History about my truck....97 T4R 3.4l V6, 4x4, bought her with 132k about 7yrs ago now has 303,000 miles....original clutch and most other items original except alt, bat, few injectors, belts, plugs, sway bar connecting rods and wires and a few other standard items that are normal. Runs Great and just put a new set of shoes on her, really LOVE the Cooper Discovery AT3's....265/75/16 look good and grip great.

Last timing belt change was at 89k so I am WAY OVERDUE and while I'm in there I want to change any and all that needs to be swapped out...idlers, pulleys, Tstat, oil pump, WP, seals, etc, etc. Also just developed a small crack on the top of the radiator,, which is currently being temp fixed with JB weld and some wire screening which is holding nicely so far, already bought radiator and hoses and gonna install when I do TB. Can't say enough about Toyota's

I was gonna take a weekend and tackle this myself but just had a GODSEND of a phone call from a 30yr Master 'yota tech/mechanic that said he'd do it all for about 1/3 of what others have quoted....comes highly recommended and owns his own shop.....makes sense since I won't have to buy any special tools like the tension releif snap on tool or the crank shaft tool

QUESTION.....trying to find a timing belt kit that has most of what I need, I had my eyes on one last week but can't seem to find it now....Kit inicluded WP, Tstat, TB and other belts, gaskets, rollers, idlers, etc,etc not sure if it included the oil pump?

Anyway, I'm running out of ordering time and figured I'd ask you guys for help.

OK so I did some more searching and found the aircabinman kit and that's the one I was searching for before.....oil pump replacement? or anything else I'm mising? thanks
 
LittleC, thanks for the reply...but I'm a little confused....you say make sure the #1 idler is not a KOYO, but the link for the kit you posted states #1 idler is a KOYO....? thanks
 
3rdgent4r: Use the link I have provided. the #1 idler is NSK.

Here is more specific, for a 1997, mine is a 2002. Nothing is different for ours but make sure yours adds up:

I am going to be installing sliders and tearing my truck apart in the next few weeks. Hopefully Spring Break from college will aid me in time well spent with the 4runner.

Yeah. I agree. I have just been told by a few on here that that is a bit much for a TB/WP job.(Although, yours doesn't have much more than mine) I ended up ordering the:

The idlers are both OE, but the water pump is not. The OE is Aisin and is the only one I would use, personally. The site calls it OES which is Original Equipment Specification. This translates as "We think it's just as good."

I can't say GMB is bad, as I have never bought their parts, but I have greater confidence in Aisin. I would get a kit with an Aisin WP as the WP is the most critical component in there, even more than the timing belt itself.

I'd be ok with the Bando belts (I used those) and thermostat is probably ok, too.

Golfinz' kit above is the gold standard, and the high price item. I'd skip the hydraulic tensioner, though, unless you are over 160 K--pointing to a next change at 250k which is about right, I think. Those things rarely go bad. I've read the entire TB megathread at YT and I'm pretty sure there is not a single failure of the hydraulic tensioner in there. It also makes the job much easier, as you can use the special tool and not remove the AC bracket, which is a PIA.

Oh, well. Here is one that people have used on YT. Although it says Idler #1 is Koyo, the box in the pic is NSK and that's what comes. All the parts are OEM and no hydraulic tensioner. If I had to do mine again today, I'd get this one.

I had a buddy use a GMB water pump on his Maxima after his Nissan OEM began weeping at 70,000 miles. He sold the car last year with 151,000 miles, and to my knowledge, the GMB water pump was still on there FWIW. I'd rather use the Aisin, but using the GMB would not keep me up at night.
 
Well I kinda feel like I cheated on my buddy who often helps me work on the truck and myself.....but I got a guy to take care of it for me....certifeid Toyota Master Tech 20+ yrs....

Anyway, just as a general FYI, I went with the kit from Amazon for about $250....which had either OEM or OES parts, water pump was OEM. everything fit perfect.

Couldn't be happier, this guy did my valve cover gaskets, T-belt with all seals, idlers, tensioners, WP...ect, installed a new CV axle, installed a new radiator and changed my oil for a little over $500. did it all in one day. Thanks again for all the help choosing the parts kit.

Next in line is a new muffler/tail pipe assembly and a installing new bank 1/sensor 1 02 sensor, sure that will be fun with as much salt as they have been putting on the raods

Because the belt is bigger (overlaps) than the koyo #1 idler is wide. I think though that most Ebay sellers, who look to sell a quality parts kit, have come to recognize this and only include NSK.

That kit look good. Install it with confidence.
