Timing Chain Stretch?

Finally getting around to tearing into my son's 4runner. I need to check and/or set timing and perform a compression test before ripping into the timing chains. Praying that the motor isn't hurt. I will know more as I tear more into it, unfortunately the rain and lifters stopped my morning progress. Anyhow, after pulling off the passengers side valve cover, I noticed a nice new shiny spot on the timing chain tensioner. I have attached a Pic. Based off this, it definitely looks to me as though the chains are stretched and we most likely have jumped time. Any thoughts or opinions. Please ignore the sludge, we purchased this used 1.5 years ago with 137k miles and it has 158k on it now. I have religiously changed the oil every 5k since we bought it for my son. I'll be doing alot of clean up while doing the chains if the engine it ok.

Hey, about that timing chain tensioner, yeah, it does look a bit worn, but that doesn't automatically mean the chain is stretched out. Before jumping to replace the chain, I'd suggest doing a compression test and giving the engine a good once-over. That should give us a better idea of what's going on and whether there are any timing issues.
And while you're at it, make sure to check out other parts connected to the timing system for any signs of wear or damage too.

Tensioner doesn't look terrible at first glance to me.. I used my original timing chain on my rebuild at 230k miles.. should I have? Dunno. Replaced the guides but the chain seemed fine. Still get 17mpg around town easy and 23 highway

I definitely have a timing issue that I am chasing after it just shut off and wouldn't restart. I am currently in the tear down stage to look at parts and stuff. Once I verify and/or set timing, I am going to do the compression test.
