Tint Ticket?

Hello all, I want to tint the windows up front but don't want to get any tickets or receive unwanted attention. olice:

So I wanted to know, how many of you have gotten a tint ticket? If so, where are you located and how much did it cost? I'm in Cali and I know its illegal, so please no lectures :infidel:

It depends on what you're wanting. I've not gotten a ticket or been stopped for tint. However, all of mine has been very close to legal (i.e. 20% when 25% is the legal limit). If you're talking limo tint, then it may be more of an issue.

I don't know where you live but I'm sure any front window tint here in cali is illegal. To me, getting stopped is like a ticket because he probably gave you a warning, where with my luck, I'd get a ticket.

I'm in Arkansas. I've been stopped a time or two for other things, officer never commented on the tint, but again I've always been very close to the legal limit.

I had it (Huper Optik 40% in front and 30% in the back) for about four years on my Camry. Car is in the pennisula most of the time--no tickets yet.

I've had two so far. Both were when I had 5% over 20% in the front (double layered). None thus far with only 5% on the fronts, knock on wood.

i have past legal limit on my fronts and very dark on all my rears and it's well past Colorado standards but Colorado cops aren't car nazis here like in some places in Cali. One practice I found that helps a cop not notice the tint is if you get pulled over for anything else I always roll down my windows on the side the cop is walking up on and have all my paperwork ready to present and both hands on my wheel since that relaxes the cop and probably won't say a word about your tint and I've been pulled over many times over the years with illegal tint on my windows and have never gotten a ticket.

Illinois just passed a law allowing 35%, or you need to get special plates. For the plates you need a doctor sign off on a medical release form stating you have some medical issues such as: systematic or discoid lupus erythematosus, disseminated superficial actinic porokeratosis, or albinism, which would require that a person be shielded from the direct rays of the sun.
of course if you are from out of state you are safe here because the police can't enforce this equipment violation.

Are you sure? In CA it doesn't matter if you are out of state, they can still ticket you.

It is indeed illegal, but it is sporadically enforced. Vehicle Code 26708. Out-of-State cars driven in California are required to be in compliance with the CA Tint law.

I got pulled over for 35% on my front windows. 35% on front windows is only legal in New Jersey if it is factory tint. I didn't get a ticket but my fiance has gotten pulled over twice for the 20% I put on her car. She just got a ticket for the last time too, $45 I think. Both of us were stopped by the same pd too, I guess they are trained to be tint nazis. You can drive with your high beams on or both taillights out though, for some reason cops are cool with that here :wtf:

I saw no where in that article where it said anything similar to that, the car has to conform to its OWN states vehicle restriction laws, it need not follow another states law.

That code is where the legalities of tint are outlined, it doesn't say "we ticket everyone for revenue" because that makes us look bad. Each state has it's own policies. CA is one of the few states who will ticket you for violations even if it's legal in your state.

It's no different than getting a ticket for turning right on a red light. Just because you can do it in your state doesn't mean you are exempt from the law in others.

I admit it takes a huge dbag to ticket someone from out of state, but luckily CA has no shortage of those. I have much respect for officers who do their job properly; I was even a CJ major. But once I saw first hand the types of people many of them are, I switched majors.

That is completly different, right on reds depend on the intersection, rather irrelevant to the state, They can't ticket you if your vehicle conforms to your states vehicle restrictions. It's no different that driving a diesel vehicle in CA that is registered in NJ, even though it has less than 7,500 miles on it and it is illegal to own in CA, because it isn't registered in CA they can't do shit to you.

I seriously considered law enforcement too but was also disappointed by the personality types that seemed to occupy all aspects of law enforcement whether state or federal. I worked with a former Cali cop, Burbank, and he was the biggest pos I've met. Apparently depending on your attitude or the cop's mood, you could find yourself getting a roadside vehicle inspection with a pile of tickets to go with it.
