Tips for roof rack removal

Hi all. I need to take the roof rack off of my 2000 Limited 4X4 to have it powder coated. In my searches, I haven't really found any good suggestions to remove the plastic pieces at the fore and aft ends of the long rails to get to the bolts. Any tips you guys and girls may have would be greatly appreciated.

The 2 end screws on each rail hold the plastic end caps on.

I think i read in here that you need to slip something under the rail about 2-3 inches back ( putty knife ) or something thin, pry up gently, and pull the end cap forward, then you can access the bolts. Be careful because they break easily. Now i could be full of crap, because i'm old and might not remember things correctly.

I just took mine off my '97 the end caps came off easily. if you break one pop on down to rosarito and you can have mine! I've found the rack to be a magnet for rust here on the beach

Loosen the other screws on the rail and the rail will lift high enough to pull the plastic tabs out.
