Probably going to go look at an '88 with the 22re in it. Anything I should be on the lookout for? This will be my first 4runner.

Im no expert on these.. The first thing you want to ask is why they are selling. People usually hang on to these unless there starting to have issues. Check for leaks and unusual sounds. Take it for a spin and see how it feels. Make sure the tranny shifts good and the engine feels strong. It really just depends on how much your paying and how much your willing to put into it if it needs work. It would be wise to take someone who knows about these or a mechanic. Check out how much ones in similar condition are going for and don't over pay. Chances are its gonna need a few things. Good luck

I really suggest taking someone who knows their stuff with you. It will save you any headaches i guarantee you! If at the very least you can take pictures and put them up here before you buy. Do your research and dont get screwed man.

Thanks guys. I will be taking whatever I buy to my trusted mechanic, just wondering if there are standard things that might disqualify it before the mechanic stage.

Don't want to spend any cash I don't have to.

Paying a mechanic to go with you could save you a ton of money rather than buying it and having him look at it after. Where do you live? maybe there is someone on here that is near you that would be willing to go.
