Tire and rim oppinions

Ok, so I have an 89 4runner with, I believe, a 4 inch suspension lift and 2 in body lift. Im looking at BF Goodrich mud terrains or all terrains, but can't decide if i should go with 33's or 35's. Also should i use the stock rims or some after market rims i have (they're white and i cant find a brand). Just looking for some opinions and reasons i should or shouldnt do one of them

Stock gears? 33s will be barely tolerable with stock gears. 35s will be almost unusable.

BFG ATs are a popular all-round tire that last forever. KM2s are my personal favorite so far, but the more aggressive tread will cause more noise, vibration, and worse mileage, and they won't last as long on the street.

That depends on what gears you have and how much work your willing to do to keep the tires from rubbing. What kind of driving you'll do is important too. basically, the smaller the tire the more manageable the truck.

IMO it is also important to look at the weight of the proposed tire/rim combo. Try keeping the weight down as much as possible by looking for alloy rims, lighter lower ply rated tires (if not doing savage rock work). This will give more longivity to your steering & running gear. The Toyo's I run are really heavy compared to kevlar belted tires... makes it harder on the motor pushing more weight, and on the shocks that have to dampen a heavier mass.

I say go with some all black rock crawler wheels and 35's. Clean, cheap, practical and a nice look. Plus you have overall 6 inches of lift... I think 33's might look a bit small... but that's all personal preference.

Plus you have to factor in what everyone else said above.

I like this pic a lot, 85 with 7 inch lift and 35's... no idea who's rig it is but it looks awesome!

With that much lift you could probably clear 37s. I agree about the gears though. I ran 35s with stock gears for a little while. It sucks something fierce. Kills your clutch trying to take off. :wacko: I currently run 35s with ~7" of lift and I think they look small.
If I were you, I'd take off your body lift and throw some 35s under it. It would be sitting low with decent size tires. :thumb:

Depends on what size tire you are going with. You will want a wider rim for anything over a 10.5. I run 10" wide wheels with 12.5 tires.

That's the stock gear ratio, so you don't want to go any bigger than 33's.
With 35's you won't be able to get out of your own way, power and mpg will suck.
As far as rims, you want them to be 2" or so narrower than the tire width. So if you went with 33x12.50 tires (a common width for 33's), you'd want 10" wide ( or smaller) rims.

I agree... get rid of the body lift. If not then run with what you already have and swap gears. GO BIG OR GO HOME!!

BUT REALLY... WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO USE THE RIG FOR? daily driving, wheeling, mall crawling? lol :biggrin1:

At your elevation, even 33s will suck with those gears. I ran 33s and 4.10s for about a week, 5th gear was useless.

It is my daily driver but i also take it out, nothing extreme, but im definitely gonna be doing a lot more this summer

I would want 35s, but i dont have the money to pay a mechanic to regear it. Would it be possible to do it myself or should i save and have a mechanic do it?
