Tire and Wheel Color Suggestions plz

I have an 03 Silver Sport with the plastic lowers and bumper covers (4x4, V8 not that it matters). I need new tires for winter, and also want to have my wheels refinished.

I really wanted to go with an visibly aggressive tread like the Dunlop Rover Maxx or similar. I drive 99% on roads in Minnesota, so I'll have quite a bit of snow and ice to deal with. Is there anything out there more aggressive looking than Revos and similar choices that I should consider? Is the treadwear so horrible on the aggressive tread tires that makes buying them a bad investment? I'm planning on 265/70/17s.

My wheels are in need of sanding and refinishing. I found a company here who will take them off (at the same time as I put on new tires) hand sand them completely, prime, paint, and seal them (aircraft quality sealant), and put a lifetime warranty on the finish. Cost is $400...but I get the tires mounted and balanced for free. The wheels are the only thing silver on my car, so I'm really thinking a flat black or a gunmetal to match the plastic lowers on my truck. I've searched for pics, but haven't seen a silver sport with the plastic with black or gunmetal rims.

as far as the wheels....GUNMETAL!! Do it, I have been thinking about doing mine that color for a while and I want to see how it looks. Because personally I think it would look good, and have yet to see anyone do that

I think the gunmetal color wheels would look good. As for the tires I had BFG All-Terrains when I was living in Colorado and they were great on the ice! They work well with the all time 4wd. They can be expensive but they are well worth it because they will last up to 90k miles+. They are fairly aggressive looking also.

I 3rd gunmetal. That's the route I would have gone if I hadn't gotten a good deal on my black powerder coated wheels. And I 2nd BFG AT too.

I haven't drive them, but people rave about the performance of the Goodyear Duratrac in show and ice.

:iagree: if not treated really well I've seen people get 20K from KOs. I've heard the duratracs can last almost as long as the KOs when treated the same. Duratracs look way better.

I think gunmetal would look better on the wheels.

Also, gaterose if you treat anything badly you will be treated badly back. Rotate them every 5k-7k miles and you will be fine. I do not know how hard you would have to TRY to make a set of those tires last 20k but you would have to be pretty dumb. I have about 30k on my Mud Grapplers and they still have plenty of tread left and are obviously more aggressive than the BFG's. I think the Duratrac's look good but they don't look like they would be as good on the ice as the BFG's are. I don't know though because the BFG's are the only ones that I have driven on ice. Also, the BFG's look good too, you know that they are good tires because there are a ton of people that have them and continually buy the same tire as replacements.

I love the look of the Rover Maxx, but I'm concerned with the lifetime. My money tree burnt down, so I have to make a somewhat practical decision. I'll make a last minute decision, and hate myself in 20k miles if I choose poorly. I'm milking my unevenly worn crap Dunlops that came with the truck until October / November when the weather starts to get bad.

I'm not sure about tires, but having literally just been searching for what to do about wheels on a silver truck (however not with plastics like yours), I was torn between silver and gunmetal.

Gunmetal has a really nice stealthy look which I absolutely love. I thing this would look great with your plastics.

Black would work with your plastics as well I think but you may want to stay away from a wheel that is ONLY back; maybe find something that has some silver on it break it up. This is just my opinion and I'm extremely picky with these things but I think black wheels on a light colored car can make the vehicle look cheap or almost aged for some reason. I don't know if I'm explaining it correctly, but something of that nature; it just doesn't look good.

The wheels I went with are the TRD Tundra wheels (from the older Tundras). They are hard to come by, especially for a good price so it sounds like this may not be a good option for you, especially if you're really going to be putting tem through the ringer.

Another good option is Sequoia/Tundra (again, older because the new ones are 5 lug) wheels, which you can get in silver OR gunmetal (hard to find). They are usually easy to come by. I was going to with this option instead of getting my wheels on my SE redone since their flaking but decided I wanted a more drastic change. These may be a good bet if they're going ot be taking some abuse since you can usually find them for a good price (hit up Craigslist). Lexus GX470 wheels are the same, also as Sequoia.

I do have a close friend that had 70k out of his BFG Mud Terrains on a 2500 Dodge Diesel pulling quite a few really heavy trailers. I only had my BFG's for like 15k and they had at least 85% tread left. Those Duratrac's may be great on snow and maybe ice too, it's the ice that really matters in Minnesota. How many miles have you heard the Mud Grapplers getting? I was actually mistaken I have 20k on my tires. I have had them for exactly a year basically. I am hoping to get at least 35-40k out of them, even though I wish they would wear down so I could get the 35's sooner haha. I rotate the tires at least every 5k miles and a couple times at 3500. I also have nitrogen in them, which the place I got the tires filled said that they have had people get up to 40k mile more with commercial truck tires filled with nitrogen.

I've heard 20,000-30,000 out of the Mud Grapplers. I wish they would last to 40,000-50,000 then I would buy them. Ha. Just can't afford paying close to $1,000 every 25,000 miles.

I agree with the statements about M/T's not being ideal for snow/ice. It sounds like the Duratracs may be an exception to that rule.

I think it's hard to hate a RevoII, Terra Grappler, Toyo A/T or even the RFM10 from Hankook. The Scorpion and the Firestone Destination A/T seem to do well on 4Runners too. Just my opinion and a slight nudge in the A/T vs M/T direction.
