ok so two things i want to buy before this trip, what ones are the best?

also, where can i get a tent that attaches to the back of my rig with the hatch open?

I have staun deflators. They are pretty nice, but I have some chewed up valve stems and they wont go on 2 of my wheels right now. I generally just pull the valve stems. Stauns work great, I will start using them again when i fix those valve stems

Does that allow you to set a certain pressure? The site doesn't explain how that works.

No, you just screw it on and it lets air out. The more you screw it on, the faster it lets air out. You can put a pressure gauge on them while they work too, to keep track of the PSI as it goes.

Yeah 70 bucks is a lot to pay for what little work they save you from. I'll probably get the 12 dollar set too.

No, you just screw it on and it lets air out. The more you screw it on, the faster it lets air out. You can put a pressure gauge on them while they work too, to keep track of the PSI as it goes.

I use this and here's what I do: I put on the first one, turned all the way down (max release), then I walk slowly to my next tire, put it on, then walk to the next tire, put it on, and then the last tire. By that time, I'm ready to take the 1st one off. Once you get the "timing" figured out it's easy. I normally air down to 15-20 psi for off-roading.

And it's not like you have to be super-precise, anyway. At the speeds you're going when 'wheeling, it won't make a difference if you have 16psi in one wheel and 21 in another and 14 in a third.

The Stauns were totally worth the $70 to me. I live close to a lot of trails so I have them set at 15 psi and I usually just put em on before I leave the house and then take em off when I get to the trailhead. It doesn't get easier or quicker than that. The effort I've saved (not to mention the strain on my back) to not have to bend down next to each tire and keep checking them with a gauge every time I go wheelin is well worth it. What's $70 when you're talking about a product that will last decades and you'll use possibly hundreds of times?

Well yeah, for someone who wheels more than they breathe, its worth it. lol

But for me, who goes MAYBE 3 times a year.. Yeah. But don't get me wrong, I would still much rather have the Stauns.

i like those style tents, the only thing that would bother me about them, is that unless your vehicle is clean and has no dust on it then you run the risk of getting scratches all over the back of your rig. for someone like me, whos dog and other wheeling trips has taken care of that issue for me, it wouldnt matter so much. but i know there are a lot of you guys who really like to keep your rigs clean and nice(i was one of those guys but :happens: and well i dont so much care anymore. the tent rubbing on the paint with dust on it in the slightest wind will leave little scratches in the paint and will have to be buffed out(if they dont go too deep) just my thougths on the tent, but i do like them so if you are ok with that risk then go for it and let us all know what you like and dont like about it!

Just cause, here's a pic on my last 4Runner.

In all, I don't like it. Its too big, too bulky. Takes up a LOT of room in the 4Runner when camping. Also, I still have yet really tried to understand the point of it unless you are going somewhere that will be raining a lot.

This one is just sorta cool
