Tire Fun

Well, I just passed 71k miles and it was time to replace my Revo2s. They had about 68k on them (lot of highway miles).

So, I decided to put another set of Revo2s on. They were apparently oval. After three trips back to the tire shop, indexing, rebalancing, etc...nothing worked. It was like driving a basketball. They offered another Revo2 set. I decided to go with Firestone Destination ATs.

Wow! What a difference! These tires are far better than the Revo2s ever were. I did get a lot of miles out of the Revo2s, and they still had quite a bit of tread left (not in the wear bars yet). But a few hydroplane incidents convinced me it was time. Plus, even with remaining tread, the rest of the tires' structure had those miles on them as well and risking a blowout isn't very appealing.

While they were at it, they checked the brakes...they look almost new. They're original.

So, overall; after 72k miles in 3 years, with plenty of boat pulling, camping and fishing gear hauling, tons of tailgating, plus a few off-road trips, I could not be happier with my decision to buy the 4runner.
