Tire opinions!- BFG All terrain or Goodyear Wrangler

Cant decide on tires, and would like some help from you guys. Both sets are used and both are $180 for all 4 tires. This is all the information I know about them:

BF Goodrich all terrain radial T/A with 6-7/32 tread remaining.
(8 ply - Load Range D...LT)

OR

Goodyear Wrangler with 10/32 tread remaining.
(P)

Which tire do you like better? Both are 265/75/16. I hear good things about BFGs, but is it worth $180 if there's 6-7/32 tread remaining? I'm a 90% pavement pounder, but I plan on goin on some light trails for my 2WD. What do you think?

180$ is like one tire new for the bfg. I have never here'd anything bad about them.
My dad has ran both on his 98 stock taco and he swears by the bfgs he said his wranglers were crap.

I like the BFG's. My buddy has them and he has had them for 60k and will go for another 20k. Ask the seller how many miles they had on them. Where did you find a deal for used tires like that? I'm looking to get some used ones at the same size for DD use. Let me know where I can look.

I'll take the other set you dont take. Let me know where and I can contact them. PM me if thats cool. I need the tires asap as I will be driving like 100 miles a day and dont want to burn my KM2's

I have the Wrangler AT (2nd set) on my ride and have had no problems with them. 10/32nds is almost a new tire. The BFG's look pretty agressive though. For $180 I would buy both sets!

i've have BFG's right now on my truck and personally i would have gone any other tire. It's too late now for me so i'm stuck with them until they wear out which is about another 40-45k miles, but they seam a little squirrelly in the rain than my old worn out bridgestone revos ever were. Yes, they look nice and work very well in snow and decent offroad, but that's a small tradeoff for everyday road manors.

If i were you, i'd go for those wranglers since your are again A)doing 90% pavement driving and B)it has more tread then the BFG's to begin with.

Goodyear Wrangler RT/S are crap! They suck in the rain. I got them used from craiglist and did not like them at all. I sold them 2 months after i got them. I saved up and bought a new set of hankook dynapro atm rf10 and love them.

Are the Goodyears a "P" series tire? If so, they will weigh less, get better gas mileage, ride smoother but won't take the abuse of wheeling as good. They have less belts and are constructed lighter. If you are wheeling mild trails, they will hold up just fine.

Yes, they are P series. Mann this is a tough choice! I love the look of the BFG's but the wranglers are almost new and sounds like theyd be better in the long run as far as mpgs.

Yea, I heard the BFGs last pretty long. Thats another factor to make this decision more difficult haha and I have just been looking on discount tire, and craigslist

Man that sounds good, but the only thing is the wranglers are almost new and the BFGs are worn. But then again, I think the BFGs look wayy better and yes, they will be better off the road than the wranglers too. Dam this is a tough choice haha

In this case, I'd go with the BFG AT. Aggressive looking tire and they'll probably suit your needs well. I've heard that the BFG AT is a long lasting tire, so even though the BFG has less tread, it may last as long as the Wranglers. Also, the BFG AT in 265/75/16 in load range D is apparently hard to find (or they discontinued them altogether, I'm not sure) so if you later decide that you like the BFG's in that size, you'd have to go with load range E, which would lower your MPG further (heavier tire).

I had a set of BFG's on my 96 Taco and they lasted 70,000+ miles. I really liked them. Can't speak for Goodyear as I haven't had that tire set.

If they are the Wrangler RT/S I'll go +1 with Mono1124. They came stock on my '99 4Runner and I hated them. They were completely unstable in the rain and I couldn't wait to get them off the truck. I switched to Michelin Cross-Terrains and it was night into day. Maybe they are different now but I'd be very careful.

I can't speak to Goodyears, but I had those BFGs on my old Exploder Sport, and they wear like iron. I didn't notice any poor road manners - taking into consideration that they're not like Long Trails or all-seasons, and I used to slide that thing around corners with the gas anyway. Is tread depth an inspection criteria where you are - that might be the only consideration.

Then again - like Rc4R said, $180 is practically the price of a new BFG, so I suppose you'd get what you pay for.

Make sure you check the date codes on all of the tires. If they are too old, most shops won't mount them. And they can be dangerous.

My Runner came with Goodyear Wranglers and that's all I've used, so I can't make a comparison. My truck is going on 14 years and I'm on my 3rd set. I've read that the tread is made of a softer rubber. Maybe that's why they don't last that long. When it rains they don't grab for sh!t. It's very easy to fishtail or loose control. Especially if your vehicle has no traction control what so ever.

Like Gerdo said, check the date codes. This could be the single most important factor. Look for DOT followed by 10-12 letters/numbers. Note the last 4 numbers, particularly the last two which indicate the year. If you find DOT followed by just a few letters/numbers, check the other side of the tire.

Assuming the BFG date code is not considerably more recent, I vote the P Goodyears. Used tires with an unknown history aren't the greatest idea in the first place. That said, there's a far better chance the Ps have not become compromised, safetywise because:

1. Fewer miles
2. Unless same size LTs (BFG) have 10-15lbs extra pressure, they run considerably hotter than passenger tires but this is not widely appreciated, so, even if the tires are the same age, the Ps have probably suffered less heat aging.
