So the time has come for new tires.....

I hate having to make decisions when there are so many options, so I have come here seeking some wise opinions.

I have narrowed my choices down to the list below

1) GoodYear MTR-K $1300
2) General Grabber Red Letter $1100
3) BFG KM2 Mud Terrain $1300


The tires picked will be wrapped on the beautiful 5 star wheel

iv personally had the mtr and km2's on my vehicles. both are great tires. couldnt say one performed better then the other. i used them in snow and on rocks. but to pick one..i enjoy the looks of the km2 better. IMO
 
i voted for the goodyear mtrs because thats what i have. i got them at a killer price, but if i was gonna pay full price id go for the km2s probably.
 
I had the MTR's on a vehicle from an employer of mine. They were absolutely fantastic, on and off road, dry and wet; I loved them.
But as the previous poster I didn't pay for them myself, this also wasn't on a 4runner. Now that I think of it maybe this isn't very useful info because they were also on a much heavier vehicle.
 
I've been trying to decide on tires for the past couple of months. After reading review after review, and all people's opinions, I'm going with KM2s. From everything I've read, they do great in all conditions and terrains, and are excellent on the highway. Treaddepot.com has the 285s right now for $1025 shipped, which isn't too bad.
 
Go with treadwrights they are great I just got them and love them, they are just as good as those name brand expensive onse and are about half the price, check em out treadwright.com
 
Wow, I am surpirsed to see the KM2 with that many votes. Honestly they were my last choice...

Maybe I will reconsider

Dous, aren't you going to be doing a lot of on road travel? Thought I read somewhere that you are going to school somewhere in NC soon. Alot of traveling would push me towards the Red Letters.

You are exactly right, going to school in Charlotte. It's a 3 hour drive I will be doing that drive probably once a month.

I am a little unsure how the red letters would look with my color, but SR5Sushi has the same tires on a similar color and it looks great. These were the tires I was liking the best though.

The KM2 has good reviews on it off road ability, but on road it seems they wear out faster than some would like
 
This is my first set of KM2s, so I cant tell you how long they are going to last, but they are pretty decent on the highway for a mud tire. I do a lot of freeway driving. I've had a couple sets of KM1s, and for a mud tire, the treadlife was awesome. The KM2s are just a touch louder on the road, but I imagine they will have pretty good treadlife like the KM1s.
 
I don't have my KM2s yet, but they're on the way. They're supposed to be much lighter and quieter than the MT/Rs, but the kevlars are supposed to have a way better sidewall.
 
For that kind of money why don't you just go with Nitto Trail Grapplers? Super aggressive AT similar to a duratrac. My buddy sells them all day long at his shop and he and his customers have nothing but good things to say about them. Read reviews online too, all good.

I have the MTR's and don't have anything bad to say about them. They are an awesome tire and have great on/off road traction. I have also heard really good things about the KM2's but I went with the MTR's because I got a killer deal on them

I must admit. I had to try these out to get my own opinion and so far they have been great. I don't have any experience with other m/t tires, but for general wheeling I have yet to make these thing break traction on steep inclines and some rather technical terrain. I must admit it wasn't that muddy (sooner stay away from that), but it was rocky, sand/clay base, and loose rock.

On the road they work great. No issues. They are a bit loud but I don't mind. Higher pitched then most M/T because of the closer lugs.

Only issues is I think they weigh more then most M/T's, and they are HUGE! With weight of truck my 33's measure 33. Everybody thinks they are 35's (and they probably weigh accordingly)
 
Yea I've ran Treadwrights in the past and liked them, but it was only because I couldnt afford anything else

SO the Generals are on national backorder until October, they are out of the picture now
 
I've run about 5 sets of Mtrs and have nothing but good things to say about them. Great all around tire with good tread life. Toughest tire I've seen!

I've run 2 sets of the older bfgs and won't run them again unless it's strictly a mud truck. I haven't had any luck with the bfg all terrains either; they look good, but still wouldn't run them.
 
I would suggest Duratracs then. Good offroad, great on the road, and good tread life and less noise.

I was torn between Duratracs and Treadwright. I figured I'd give them a try for the cost and so far so good.
