I think they only make one version but I am not sure. The BFG A/T works great on our 4Runner and are very smooth. I think you will notice more of a difference based on your suspension. If you can get these for $600 that is a steal. A lot of 4Runners are running them.

My neighbor has been running Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S on his modded Cherokee....(I know a Heep) for years and loves them.

I've ridden in his Heep enough to know the "D" weight ride very nice when not over inflated. 38-40psi max in the fronts and 38-36 psi in the rears.

I have heard before 265 E rated tires are too stiff for our vehicles. Hepar has the BFG E's and he says it his one regret with his build. It is a local connection that can get the E rated BFG's for $600 I just wish they were D's and I would have already bought them. I may just go with the Yoko's and have Discount Tire or a local shop price match them. They aren't the most aggressive tread, but that is fine for now.

i personally would go with the BFGs in this case, thats like stealing them. and you can run the tire presure lower so they wont be as stiff, just run your PSI at like 30-35 and youll be fine and as stated above, the harsh ride will probably be more of a factor of your suspension not the tires. on my e rated tires i only notice a harsher ride when i run the at like 50+ psi. hell id buy the BFGs keep saving till you can find the tires you like or want and get them and you can probably sell your BFGs with 50% tread left for like $400 so you only loose $200, but if you factor in that you got 25k+ miles outta them thats not really loosing any money...

I'll put in another pitch for the Yokohama Geolander AT-S. I had them on my Tacoma and they were great all-around tires. Not quite as aggressive as I'd like (which is why I'm running Hankook Dyna-Pros now) but if I had a mostly-highway vehicle that also needed to be good in winter conditions and didn't have a lot of $$ to spend the Geolanders would be my first pick.

Around here (Denver) I think they run around $145 for a 265/75/16 which also looks really good on a 4runner.

Yeah, but I have E's now and it is night and day difference from before. I need a smoother ride due to a picky gf and baby. Plus I've been reading up on E's and they are fine with 285's (more sidewall), but harsh with 265's. Plus I can get Yoko's for under $600.

Yeah I want BFG's, but as stated before the E range is not going to work in my favor. I read a post by brian2sun on yotatech and he said he couldn't stand the E's and his D rated were 100x better. I trust his judgement and experience a lot more than mine at this time. I've had BFG's in the past and loved them, but I'm not single anymore and my vehicle will be the primary road trip and snow vehicle, so I have to have the better ride quality.

Keep in mind that you can request certain sidewalls too. They may not have them, but if they do, they'll give you Warden's with BFG sidewalls... My Guard dogs are Goodyear MTR sidewalls. Just thought I'd share in case you go that route.

They sold me the tires at 160 a piece and gave me buy 3 get the 4th free, so with the installation, disposal fees, and road hazard (optional) I was right at $625 out the door. But the killer part of the deal is that I also got a $100 rebate. So I would look at firestone.com to see what tires have rebates and then see if you can get the local shop to give you buy 3 get the 4th free.

I would search craigslist. A lot of people will get a certain size, then very soon after want a different brand or even a different size. And THAT is when you can score a deal on some next to new tires.

I wouldnt get a retread. I know some people swear by them, and for a dedicated trail rig I might. But if I had an 11 month old in the car, no way am I taking my chances with those tires.

Bingo. I got five 265/75's **** Cepeks in just about new condition for $500 because the guy decided he wanted 33's instead. He spent $250 a tire. Quite the discount for me.

My vote is for the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S in the D Range, 265/75r16's (Part No. LT265/75R-16/D1 119R). I just had a set installed on my '97 and I'm loving them. This is my second set of the Yoko's and I got 55K out of the first set. Those still had another 5k or so of life in them too.

I put '99 Talls on the '97 and a 1.5" spacer lift in the back and wanted something that would fill out the wheel wells a little better. I went w/the D range over the E because I wanted a little softer ride.

Check the specs... the load capacity is about 3000lbs on the D's and only 3400 on the E's. The main difference structurally is that the E's have an additional polyester sidewall ply.

I can speak from firsthand experience that these are a great tire. I paid about $730 out the door, including sales tax, at a local tire shop. Another $70 for an alignment and I was right at $800 for the set.

Like a previous poster, I got a great deal on the Revo 2s; all four for less that $700 with the lifetime alignment since it was their first ones sold. For water and snow, they are hard to beat. Mud, dirt, sand, ah no. I should have spent more for the Nitto TGs in hindsight.

Yeah those deals are hard to find in the Bay Area and they go real quick. I've been searching craigslist for the past 3 weeks and only seen a couple good deals.

Thanks for the pics BFAD. I wasn't sure how the Yoko's looked on our 4runner, but they look good. They aren't too aggressive, which is one downside, but I can deal with that. They are at the top of the list right now. I'm going to call some of the local tire places to see what kinds of deals they can give me.

I just really don't want to get E range. I have heard countless people complain and discourage E's and I hate my E's right now. It was a dramatic ride quality change from my Michelins to my Coopers. I know they are completely different tires and shouldn't be compared, but it made a huge difference.

I also just want to say thanks to everyone for chiming in. I know tires have been beat to death on this site, but I appreciate your comments and advice.

I did opt for the P rated but the store I go to in Baltimore will give me buy 3 get one free on just about what they have in stock at list price, so I generally try to buy something that has a rebate as well. They treat me well at that store; also gave me lifetime alignment for $129. I did look at the E rated tires and they would have set me back about another $150, but I wasnt sure on how the tires would ride.
