tire recommendations

There are a lot of suggestions being posted but honestly you did not give enough information to really give a good recomendation.

is street driven freeway or stop and go in town driving. Do you get any weather or are you in Arizona where tires explode in the summer from the hot asphault.

It is a great to query the forum. There are a lot of good helpful people that will provide advice. But if you dont give good details the suggestions may not apply to your needs and you may make a bad decision.


Check out Tire Rack and look at the surveys they have for various tires. Maybe take some of the suggestions from the forum and pull the tire up on Tire Rack and see what the survey results are.

That may lead you to a sound decision.

I picked up a set of Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2's at the beginning of December and I absolutely love 'em. I'm in Michigan and they are great in the snow. Quiet too.
 
mixed driving. mostly around town, but a couple 1000 mile trips a year where we are on the highway. we're in charlotte so not really extreme weather conditions
 
I just mounted Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor and so far these seem really sweet. I was amazed at how quiet the were. Looking at the tread would have you expecting a lot more rolling noise. I got the Pro Grade Since there will be times when I need to tow a horse trailer but I think these tires deserve a look.

It seems that tire reviews over time can change drastically.
For example, the Hankook Dynapro ATM at first seem like a sweet deal and after 20-30k miles they seem to start producing loud noise and possibly not performing well in wet weather.

That's why I'm looking for drivers who have had tires on 30k plus miles.

Can't really speak to the off road side Danny. My Geolander miles were pretty much all highway. I had the H/T-S's (not A/T) so that's what they were built for and they really excelled here.

Firestone Destination LE2

Just picked up a 2000 4Runner 4x4 to tow my boat to the ocean; 150 miles round trip. All flat freeway miles, but the boat ramps are always slimy and wet.

TireRack suggested the Firestone Destination LE2 as a quiet long lasting road tire. I have no plans for off-road use. Has anyone here used these tires?
 
I had a 93 Suburban that I bought brand new. Went through tires every 30 to 40K. Put a set of Michelin LTX's on it and they had 95K on them when I sold the car.

When I bought the 4Runner it had the LTX's and that's one of the reasons I bought it off a private seller. Talked to a dealer and he said if somebody puts Michelin's on their vehicle that means they are taking good care of it.

I have now put close to 40K on the 4Runner and the tires still look great. I have michelins on all my cars and trucks.
 
I just picked up an 04 Sport and need to put on new tires. This is my first SUV and looking to do a bit of offroading, but nothing near extreme. Living in Colorado I can see where I could get into terrain which had sharp angular rocks on occasion, but this will be my daily driver so most miles will be on highway.

From the sound of it here the Yokohama Geolander AT and Michelin LTX M/S are both a great choice. Based on the above, would one or the other of these be a good choice for me? If not any other recommendations?
 
Got the yokohama geolanders, great tires, about 45k on them and still going strong. no experience on the michelin ltx tho

I've had the Michelin LTX M/S2s a day now, 265/70/16s, and wow. So quiet and smooth are the first impressions. And cornering is phenominal. I can't wait to see how they are in the wet and winter. As a bonus, they look badass for an all-season -- really wide tread and they appear to be one of the larger 265/70/16s out there.

Tire recommendations

On my 4th Generation, I've run Michelin Cross Terrains. Long lasting tire, but picked up several road hazards in the water channels. The LTX M/S were equal in tread life and without as many road hazards. I found both Michelins to not grip extremely well in wet turns. Back end wanted to slide. Picked up another 4th Generation with Bridgestone A/T's. Terrible tire. Slid all over the place in winter. Put a set of Cooper AT3s on and have 50k on them with tread still left. They have been the best compromise between price and performance thus far.

Still would like to find a tire that would keep the back end from wanting to slide in the winter on roads.
 
I had stock size (265/65r17) Nitto Terra Grapplers and they lasted forever! It got to a point where I just sold them (at almost 70k miles) and changed to my current tires because I got a lift and new wheels. This might be a rare case though, but overall they are aggressive, quiet, and long lasting.
