Tire recommendations...

For your needs, i would NOT get BFG AT KO nor Goodyear SilentArmor because these tires are more off-road oriented...heavier, noisier, worst on fuel economy, poorer handling, etc.. I would consider LTX A/T-2, LTX M/S, or REVOs (1 or 2). If you want to go cheap, then i would recommend Yokohama Geolander H/T-S...a fine tire at a reasonable price.

Yeah, I was looking at the Yokohama's. The Michelins are only about $150 more (locally) for a full set so I may go for the at2s. From the reviews, they look good. Quiet, good on the highway, there when you need it for an off-road from time to time and long tread life. Then again, the wife might like to have that extra $150 for hush money... ;-)

Not trying to argue, but if I even go offroad at all I would want a tire with some strength. That tire probably has pretty weak sidewalls. The KO's have 3 ply sidewalls. I guess I just like the feeling of knowing I have a strong tire on my rig while on the trails..

Hey, I love my KO's, but for this guy's purposes, doesn't fit his needs. Sounds like he is not going to be rock crawling or even really going off road. (fire roads is not offroading, IMO). Just regular tires should fit him better.

True. Though I do go up some fairly steep pipeline access roads and hit some spots with mud about a foot deep but it's only during hunting season. A full on hwy tire might possibly get me screwed there.

So far im loving my NTG 265/75/16s. I take them offroad for the first time in a few weeks, cant wait.

Yeah, I do know that getting to a good hunting spot can get dirty. (duck hunter myself). This is why I suggested a good road oriented AT tire, like the Yoko ATS. REVO's seem great, too, but they're more expensive. And if you can spend the dough, Mich AT2's seem like a great choice.

Oh, I suggest staying at the stock sizing, BTW (265/70/16). Stock 31's are plenty for what you'll be doing and going bigger will only make your MPG drop.

Bought an '02 with Michelin Cross Terrain tires, I have the 16" rims, with about 20,000 left on them. Great on the highway, minimal noise, no wander. Great on wet roads, no slide. No complaints. Can't wait for snow.

Good tires, although you might not be happy with them in the snow. After about 3/4 life, they get pretty shotty in the white stuff.
