TIre Rotation Issue

When radials first came out it was recommended that when they were rotated that they stay on the same side so the rotation direction stayed the same. In recent years I haven't seen that recommendation. My Ford recommends crossing them by my 4Runner manual keeps them on the same side which keeps you from getting the same wear on all tires since the spare stays on one side. In other words Toyota says rotate spare>RR>RF>spare and LR>LF>LR. I would prefer to rotate spare>RR>RF>LR>LF>spare.javascript:smilie('')

Does anyone know of any tests by an auto or tire company that have been done to show there is a benefit to keeping the tires on one side (same rotation)? I'm not looking for what it says in a manual but something definitive that shows there is a difference in wear or anything else.

Not sure if this has changed or not, but when they first came out we were told not to run them in different directions because it would make the belts separate.

I rotated mine the first time using the second method and Discount Tire rotated them the same way yesterday.

I've rotated them on my vehicles that way for at least the last 10 years with no issues and think they wear better.

There is no longer a problem reversing the rotation of radial tires.
