Tire Size??? Duratracs vs BFG AT KO2

Looking at new tires and I really like Duratracs, and was considering getting 275/70/17 to help save some on gas instead of going up to 285/70/17, but goodyear doesn't make Duratracs in 275/70/17 size. So instead I was checking out the BFG AT ko2's in 275/70/17 but I noticed something about the weight.

According to tire rack BFG AT ko2's load E in 275/70/17 weigh: 55lbs.
And the Goodyear Duratracs load D in 285/70/17 weigh: 54lbs.

So my question is, will the smaller 275 ko2's really save me any on gas since they are slightly heavier than the 285 Duratracs? Thanks for everyone's input.

There are alot of variables involved here. The mass is slightly more but the moment of inertia is slightly less. Also the slight impact on you revs at a given speed. If it were me I would just get the larger tire and call it a day. We are probably talking about 0.25-0.5 mpg difference between the two tires, one way or the other.

I was sort of thinking the same it'll be so small of a difference it's prob negligible, so might as well go bigger bc it looks better! :biggrin2:

I love how people talk about "suffering" when you have load range E tires. lol It's not like you're going from rolls of charmin to solid rubber when you go from D to E. I have E rated ST Maxx tires and they ride just fine.

If you're that worried about a rough ride, then you're in the wrong vehicle.

I have not considered those, but I will look into them, I've never had coopers, but have heard positive things about them.

I have the Cooper ATP's in 285 E-load for about a year now. Awesome A/T tires in wet, snow, dirt and gravel. Not that loud either. Never tried mud or rock crawling though. I will move to the ST Maxx for my next tires.

I've never had coopers either but I have read good things about the ST Maxx and I think that will be my next tire. I also wanted the Duratracs but when I found out I couldn't get them in 275/70/17, I started looking around.
