That's like asking which is better, green or blue? What do you plan to do with it? If off-roading, a 16" wheel is probably better - more sidewall. For road racing, a 17" wheel is probably better - less sidewall to flex.

If you really want a mean road-racer, go with 24s - even better.

IMO the best size tire is the 1 you can get the best deal on. Do you plan on doing a break upgrade then maybe a 17 is a good option. I searched CL for a few months and found 5 separate FJ wheels and Dueler tires that were spares for a total of 500 dollars.

Wheel size won't play a role in your gas mileage, only the tire size will. You can get a 265/75/16 or a 265/75/17, for example.

17" will help ensure you clear a future Tundra break upgrade without worries...which you SHOULD do... eventually....

as far as whats "better"..... an inch difference is not going to make anything better or worse... it just different and like [MENTION=107971]derpiful[/MENTION] said.... the tire itself can be same overall size...

I just did an FJ 17" upgrade on mine with some new hercules tera trac ii tires. I really like how it looks with the wheel/tire combos!

Wheel size won't play a role in your gas mileage, only the tire size will. You can get a 265/75/16 or a 265/75/17, for example.

When comparing equivalent tire diameters the larger wheel set-ups are heavier. The additional weight will lead to a decrease in fuel economy.

17's in general are better in my opinion. More tire options nowadays, all of them clear the Tundra Brakes, and more wheel options in general too, if you're looking at OEM wheels to put on your 3rd gen that is.
