What color is your Runner? Mine is black and I think it will look pretty nice with the "black on black". Are you going to get new tires as well?

It's mag gray met... and i plan on eventually converting all the chrome to satin black so i think the gray on satin black will look nice...

I'm looking to get BFG AT T/A KO in 275/70R17 or Goodyear DuraTrac in same size, but this may have to wait as money is tight and I have a good size list of stuff I want to get for the new toy... How about yourself - definitely getting new tires and which ones are you decided on?

Also, I may have to hold off on the powdercoating of the wheels since I don't have a spare set to put on for those 5 days that it takes to PC my wheels...

is that spray paint resistant to oil and fuel? I think i would go to bodyshop and have them paint it with PPG or other equivalent car paint that they also use on bumpers.

Yes, the clearcoat is acrylic enamel which is fuel/oil resistant.

How much do you think a body shop would charge you to prep and paint them with PPG satin black?

Well I just had 4 BFG A/T's installed this morning (pics to come!!!) 265/70/17.

I wanted the 275s but they only came in load range E's. So far I like the look, did notice a bit more road noise than the stockers though. Over all Im pretty happy.

Sold the stockers on Craiglist with 2500 miles on them for 350.

I can't tell you much about them, but I do know they are part of Continental tire in Germany and are used by Hartge on their offroad BMW X5's. They can't be all that bad. I thought about a set myself.

Does anyone know if LT tires (ie LT265/70R17 as opposed to P265/70R17) fit on the new 4runner? I am about to order a set of tires tomorrow and need to make sure LT tires will fit before I place the order.

LT = Light Truck
P = Passenger car

The "LT" usually indicates that the tire is designed for more than highway use, while the "P" is designed for use on passenger cars driving on paved roads.

The numbers determine sizing. In this case the width is 265 mm, and the 70 indicates that the sidewall height is 70% of the width. The R means it's a radial tire and the 17 indicates the rim diameter. The tire will be the same size regardless of "LT" or "P", but there will be a vast difference in tread patterns.

Sometimes the tread design can be exactly the same. The main difference being the LT tire is a heavier design - 10-ply vs. 4-ply for instance - and has a much higher load rating and stiffer side walls. LT tires also are rated for much higher PSI for the higher load rating.

I'm looking at such a tire right now with the same tread pattern in both versions (Hankook DynaPro ATM FR10) - one is P and one is LT (65/70/17). They are both designed for highway and off road use, and the tread pattern is exactly the same. The LT is rated at 80 psi and 3,195 load, while the P is 44 psi and 2,535 load. One other spec I noticed is that the LT tire has a deeper tread - 16 vs. 13 for the P. The price for the LT is about $20 more per tire. I need a heavier tire due to the rough gravel roads that I drive daily (and sometimes tow 5,000 pounds), and I'm hoping the LTs will reduce all the flats I get each year.

So basically, the fit will be the same, but you are getting much heavier tires with the LT, assuming you are comparing the same brand and model of tire. (you also may get reduced gas mileage as a result of the LT tires weighing more) As Mike noted, most of the time you are talking about two different tires altogether so there may be tread differences as well (but the Hankooks are the same).

Just got my General Grabber AT2 tires via UPS!! Here are a few standalone pics and will have more when I take delivery and have them mounted on my SR5 next week... (sorry, crappy pics via cell phone)

ps. as you can see, the husky's are sitting right alongside just itchin' to be installed in the new toy

Looks good. I like the Generals, they seem like a high bang-for-the-buck solution.

I removed my sr5 emblems and scuffed with 320, washed with Dawn, and applied 4 coats of Krylon Fusion Matt Black.... They were looking awesome..... Until the 5th coat... They now have like an alligator look to them... I am not sure what I did different.... Maybe I did not shake the can enough?

Any ideas?

So I guess now I need to wait till they fully cure before sanding them down to smoothness.... I think it will just gum up the sandpaper....

I kind of like the look it made... Sorta thinking about keeping it......

Also wondering if either way really needs the clear coat? I was able to get Krylon Gloss Clear....... But then I would lose the mat look...

Any pros and cons....
