tire sizes

Ok, now I bet that this is going to sound like a stupid question, but if you knew me you would know that it is not, lol. I have Baja Widetrack A/T 235/75/15 tires.....what does that mean? I looked it up online, but unless it is broken down into common sense, I won't get it. Also, what are the tallest tires that I can put on my 4runner without it starting to rub? I want to stay with the Baja tires because I like the way they handle on the road in the Missouri weather. My 4runner is stock. Thanks for the help.

Hey greyghost....In layman's terms...A/T stands for All-terrain....235 is the width of the tire, 75 is the thickness of the tire from the edge of the rim to the edge of the tire and 15 stands for the rim size in inches.

My 4runner had the same size tires when I bought it used. About a year ago I stepped up to a bigger set of 31"x10.5"r15 (equivalent to 265/75r15), which would be the tallest size you can get without rubbing.

There're a couple things you should consider before changing your tire size...1) you will probably lose 1-2mpg on your gas mileage 2) your odometer and speedometer readings will be slightly off and 3) you will feel a noticable difference in power unless you change the gear ratio.

Despite all that, I have no regrets after changing my tires. I think it looks a lot better and I probably won't ever go back to the 235's. The gas mileage on our 4runners aren't that good to begin with, and after a while you hardly notice the decrease in power.
