Tire time!!

Hey all,
it's time for tires... i'm coming off of my procomps(and good riddance) I'm thinking of going with **** Cepek Radial FC-2 in sizes LT 265-75R16.. Load Range E and while i am at it i'll be changing my rims too...

I would like to know if anyone has used these tires before and what were your experieances were.. I spend 80% of my time on the road with the remaining time in snow or a trail that i might find .

I tow a pop up trailer, jetski, and small bass boat.(not at the same time)

If I had the cash to throw down on some DC tires, I would probably go ahead and get BFG All-Terrains in a C load range. I'm just not a huge fan on running E rated tires on such a light rig. While I have no personal experience with E-rated tires on a 4Runner, I can't help thinking that such a heavy tire is just overkill. I have run 2 sets of BFG All-Terrains, I got over 40k out of them on my fullsize pickup, which I could have gotten even more if I actually ever rotated the tires. They were awesome in the snow and ice, giving me total confidence even with fully aired up tires.
 
I'm waiting on the same tire but in a 285/75/16 for my runner. There currently on my ol mans suburban right now, im just waiting on him to get them swapped to his new set(same tires). since he got a 2nd set of the same tire for a good deal i'm snagging his old set. they currently have roughly 60k km's on them and he hauls a rugged load every once in a while and are oly about half wore. i haven't heard much bad about these tires and i know a few people running them. they work good in snow and mud but are a little touchy on ice.
id say go for them there a wicked looking radial/all terrain tire!

you are probabally right.. they might be a pretty heavy tire for such a lite truck... might be why i cant get out of my way when towing my toys... when i bought the pro chumps i have on there now.. thats what they sold me... that load rating is high.... I wonder if they make a C load in a DC tire... I have had BFG before... i guess they are ok... but ihave heard some very good things about the cepeks..

I have load E on my wifes 2000 Ford Expedition and they ride like rocks. With the weight of her truck I need to run them around 55psi to get good tire wear so they are stiff as hell. They would need to be around 60psi on our light rigs. You dont want load E anywhere near a truck of our weight. I have load D and they are a little overkill.

I think i run my pressure a little lighter than that... wonder if that is why they are cracking and wearing prematurely. On a 16" rim too... even with towing and such? i'm going to have to look into a bit more carefully.. thanks for the tip.. to tell you the truth.. i forgot WHAT pressure i run at.. one way to find out..
 
My BFG T/A KO tires are load E rated and ride quiet with my SS 1.2 suspension.

I have driven with both the BFGs and General Grabber AT2 tires and couldn't tell the difference.

yeah huh? thanks for the tip... i had BFG'S on another truck i had.. they were ok for the time i had the truck.. i'm going to have to look into this..

Yea but they ride rough. I know they do. They are 80psi tires and need a lot of air which makes them ride rough.
 
You don't have to put 80 psi in. I have been running at 45 psi for years. This is my 3rd set and the BFG TA KO is probably the most popular all season offroad tire sold period.

If you look at the tire specs you will notice they have a psi range that includes "up to" higher PSI. You don't have to put it in.
 
Just remember the rule of thumb... the bigger the tire, the lower psi you'll want to run. I run 38psi in my 35s which is still prob more than I should have in them. I would NEVER run 80psi in a tire unless it absolutely calls for it. Also, be aware of tire/service shops. They LOVE to over-fill tires. Whenever I have to take my truck in for some kind of service I tell them to leave my tires alone.

um for a lighter truck you need to run higher PSI!? just exactly where did you get your information from?, cause its wrong. i am running a set of e rate nitto terra grapplers(on my second set because i like them so much) and before this set i was running a set of E rated maxxis bighorns. both of which i would run at around 32-35 psi. sure i could go to 80psi and be fine, and i did a couple of times, but only on long freeway trips like 500+miles, and the only reason i did this was to get the best mpg possible.

the ride in my 4runner with e rated tires is not bad at all, in fact i can not tell the difference between them and my snow tires(p rated). its all in the air pressure you set them at. and your truck isnt a lincoln town car either, so dont expect it to ride like one, expect it to ride like a 10-15yo truck, because thats what it is.

imo from the DCs ive had in the past, they are a soft tire compund, now i have never run the FCIIs on a truck but i have run the original FC on my 85 truck, they worked ok on that, infact i liked them better than my BFG ATs, but only because i knew they where softer, there fore i did not expect to get high mileage out of of them. they are a good tire in the sand and snow and on the hwy but other than that i think their are better tires out there. i know you are getting them used so this will be a mute point for you, but if i had the $$$$ to send on new DC tires, i would buy something else. i do not think they are worth their asking price, but thats just me

I have some DC's on my truck in the 265 size. They are awesome in the sand around my area but when it comes to mud...forget it. They do not self clean until you are back on the road which is to be expected by most all terrains. Low road noise and I'm not sure of the load rating off the top of my head but they ride great in my opinion. I personally prefer the BFG All Terrain TA KO though. Always been good to me.

LOL, your right I didnt mean higher. I was ass backwards. I know you dont have too run 80psi but you still need higher than what then what you would run on OEM tires making the ride rougher. Its more of an issue on wash board but all I do is relieve pressure and they ride great. I agree I have ran the BFG A/T's on a few trucks. I just get a better ride on a lower load of tire period.
