Wow I guess the 18" rim really makes a difference. Even on discount tire direct the AT3s and similar are around $180 apiece. Anywhere I look I'm going to spend $900+. Help me find that $100 tire in 265/65/18 size and you'll be my new best friend.

The Hankook ATM is $649 after rebates and discounts on there right now. And that in my opinion is an awesome tire. I liked them almost as much as the Coopers. Some things I actually liked better...rim protection flange, easier to balance, nicer sidewall design, etc.

Mysteriously, there's this rebate, that rebate, the other order online discount rebate to get it at 400. Neglected to say that it's closer to 500 then have to wait if the rebate ever comes in.

You will hear him bragging on how cheap he got his coopers in every tire thread out there. He will down play how great the bfg at KO's are, how they suck compared to what he has.

Btw, you can get tires under $100 each..... used lol. Look on Craigslist, people are always selling stuff for different reasons. I sold a set of mud grapplers because I didn't like the humming nose they made. $400 each tire, sold the set of 5 for 1150. Buyer loves them. I didn't!

I haven't ran a lot of AT tires, mostly its been mud terrains. once I landed on the BFG all terrains....that's been the last ive used. I love them.

the mileage, and time life out of them is ridiculous. they've given great traction, and taken me places I really shouldn't have been able to go...

Like you I love my KO's, I did find them real cheap on Craigslist for $260 a set with 11/32 of even tread left. I got lucky. Would I pay full price for these tires before I got this set? No, I would be on the same bandwagon as wxman. Since I got these, I will say I think I will be a KO's man for a long time. It's been 3000 trouble free smooth riding great offroading miles.

I already ran down the math with you and YES I paid just a hair over $100 each for the tires delivered to my front door. As of last week you could still get a set of the AT3s for $495 I think it was to the door. So your sarcasm is hardly funny. If somebody here has a problem with me helping them save hundreds of dollars of their hard earned money, let me know.

Terrible mud and snow traction (documented all over the Web)
Prone to dry-rot just like the Michelin tires of the same company

And yes I've owned 3 sets of them so I am qualified to make those observations. If you like the BFG, then run them by all means.

I am no fan of BFG A/Ts, but people that run them love them. If they really weren't as good as people say, they wouldn't be buying them by now. They are successful in word of mouth advertising and don't need consumer reports (who by the way knows nothing about tires) to advertise for them. While there is no tire that is perfect in every condition the BFG A/Ts seem to do quite well in many.

I think I'm gonna go against the grain here and get the hankooks, NOT the coopers, but for now the runner is in the shop due to a deer that wanted to die on my bumper. My "deer" bumper did its job and didn't allow any vital parts to break, but it's gonna be a long 10 days without it fixing cosmetics. Coming up are new tires and suspension. Will be getting rid of the xreas, keeping the rear air, and adding some of those bilsteins I've been reading so much about. Maybe some fj front springs and I'll be in business!
Btw, I do enjoy my bfg ATs, but with over 80k on them the old suspension is making them wear funny. I will say these are the toughest tires I've owned.

Heard rumor toyo now has a A/T that is mile rated. Ima huge fan of Toyo

Your math sucks. You give half stories. You say you can get them for $100, You neglect to tell people the specifics of the deal. You also dont give specifics to what tire size you are running. you also give an opinion on tires and never say what they were on. You dont say anything except offer your opinion. You give all these theories on things. Yet its all opinions.

huh? its great in the snow, they are winter rated after all. and not too shabby in the mud as well.
they seem to be priced just about the same as anything else.
and dry rot? mine are 10+ years old, and are still in great shape.

I cant speak to the rolling resistance, but ive never noticed it being an issue.

Its sucks i hate waiting but i guess its worth it.I was looking and Treaddepot.com is doing free shipping on a set of 4 tires plus some already have a good rebate so depending on where you live could end up saving a nice little chunk. For me it would be $150 but i'm gonna see when it gets closer to Black Friday and see what the other tire websites have to offer.

Speaking of Black Friday does anybody know any other good deals going on? I wouldn't mind getting a good deal on some sliders!

Tires can and DO spin in the wheels under some circumstances. What I said was that is one reason they can lose balance over time. That's a fact.

Codes for swapping sensors? Happens all the time, especially when people don't use OE sensors. And even OE sensors can be faulty, or damaged during installation which is another common problem. That's also a fact.

I never said anything about Nitto tires, anywhere, ever on this forum not being made in USA if you're directing that at me.

I think you've lost your beans over there. Need to back away from the keyboard for a minute.

Now..as far as BFGs sucking in snow and mud... that's also a fact. Again, use google and you'll see thousands of reviews just like mine about their miserable performance in snow and mud due to the interlocked tread design that holds onto everything and makes the tire become a racing slick. Why are they used on the FJ? Popularity...same reason BFGs were used on the Rubicon Jeeps and before that MTRs were used on them. Whatever is popular with the fanboys is what they're going to use on special editions because that's what sells vehicles. It's not because the tires are the best tires, if that's what you're implying.

Again, buy whatever you want. I'm just giving some great advice here on how to get better tires for less money. I'm shocked that instead of thank yous I'm getting grief over it. You guys are a rare breed...I'll tell ya'. :frusty:

your convoluted opinion. you have not done this nor have you seen it yourself. so its your opinion. you have never mounted and balanced tires before. you only read and believe what people tell you.

this customer of mine HATES these bfg ko's so much, he is on his second set on this truck and bought another set for his other truck. suggested he could save a few bucks by going with the $100 cooper tires that wxman suggested. he said nah, i like these bfg's. i'm going to stay with them, plus i had a set of coopers on my other truck and hated them. they cheap tires.

i just LOL'd, like many have said...once you go bfg at ko's you just tend to stick to them. they just dont wear out! this guy is got 68k out of them and it still have life left.
