Hey all.
I am currently in the market for a new (old) T4R, and have found one that I think fits the bill! But with all the experience around on this forum, I figured I would get a few opinions before I wrote the check.
IMO, this car has been taken very good care of. The owner is very conservative, always follows scheduled maintenance, doesn't let RPM get over 3000, etc, and it looks like new. The interior is perfect, and there is not a single blemish on the outside or undercarriage. Never been off road before.
It has 146,000 miles on it. It is a 5-speed manual transmission. I was sure I wanted a manual but after talking to several guys, it sounds like manual is not such a good idea - especially for rock crawling. But good on the freeway apparently. My time driving this truck will be: 60% freeway driving and storm chasing cross country, 30% in town, and 10% rock crawling on trails like Red Cone, Lake Como, etc. I feel that a manual would be an excellent choice for that kind of driving style, but not according to the guys I spoke with. Apparently rock crawling with a manual is a DISASTER?? But what I do rock crawling, isn't really ROCK CRAWLING. It's more just standard off roading in Colorado.
The car is a 2000 Highlander 4Runner. It DOES NOT have a locker, which is worrisome, but I feel like it would be worth sacrificing that for the car. I don't know how many people you'd have to go through to find a car that has been treated so well and in such great condition. I've never seen a used car like it. It's like it just rolled out of the factory. AND it's manual, which is what I've been looking for. I know that I could probably drive it another 250k+, and do my offroading I like to do without a locker (and if I need one later I can retrofit), and to be honest, I kind of really like it!
The car is $7900. So all you seasoned 4runners... to buy? Or not to buy? The owner is looking to make the transaction on Friday.
