To KDSS or not ?

Newbie ...

Searching around for a Runner that has KDSS at this time is a chore !

I have deposit on 15 Sr5 Preimum due in next month . I know the difference between the sr5p/trail ... But I have not driven one with KDSS !

I plan a 3'' lift as soon as I get it . Should I wait to test drive one with the KDSS or does it not matter since I plan to lift it ?

Does the lift remove the system ?

I'm looking for less body roll .

KDSS is not affected by any typical lifts. The XREAS system on the Limited's, which is a function of the shocks is eliminated w/ any system which replaces the struts/shocks.

if you can, i would test-drive one with and one without KDSS to get a feel for it.

my KDSS Trail rides amazing with an ICON 2.5" (shock body) setup front and rear. super, super flat and controlled around corners—far better than stock.

you don't have to remove KDSS to lift, though some may say a high-quality suspension upgrade may mitigate the "need" for the Trail's big-ass KDSS swaybars. if you install yourself be prepared to apply some serious muscle (both brain and brawn) to get those sways reattached. not sure i'd trust an inexperienced shop to do it, but that's just me.

Congrats on whatever you choose... there's a TON of info if you limit your search to title only and in 5th gen forum. Below is a few... I chose not to go with the KDSS and have absolutely no regrets on mine. There are others here that have it and will say the same.

Totally freakin worth it. Feels like a race car hauling ass through on ramps. And the ride is so nice my near 60 yr old mother is debating between a Trail with KDSS or a Limited.

Well .... Looks like the trail does not have the moon roof as an option .
After not having one in my 07 FJ ..... I want one !

So , like I did to the FJ I'll have to add larger sway bars, bushings , bilstiens myself . To the SR5 I have ordered .

Drive it for a bit before you spend on new sway bars. My non-KDSS equipped Trail is just fine through the corners and onto highway ramps. I still roll into those harder than 90% of the other drivers we have to deal with daily. They really take all the fun out of it.... :tsk:

Trail Premiums come with sunroofs/moonroofs(whatever)...........

Where did you find larger sway bars for the fj ?

If I remember right ... Addco made them . I had front and rear . The new ones were double the size of the OEM .

It made a huge difference ... I feel like like can drift that 6MT on on/off ramps !
That and the bushings and the shocks ...... What a great ride .

I'm actually having a hard time with my decision to replace it . It still looks showroom , mostly stock Looking .... I added a TRD exhaust , tint , great looking tires , a new Bluetooth head unit ...... It's the Black Cherry 07 color .

Waiting for my bride just a half hour ago at the supermarket .... A gent walked up and said it was a great looking truck .

Aaaargh ,...... All I can say .. Is that SR5 better be all I'm hoping or I'll be really bumed out .

Its a White Premium with the Tan leather interior . I m aware the interior might be too light ..... My Wifes Legacy has the same color options and its great looking . It will mostly be a garage queen anyway . I have a company car that's my daily .
