That's awesome and ridiculous all at the same time. If they make a toy version of that runner my nephew will get it for X-mas or birthday.
 
I can't for the life of me figure out why they would keep the IFS.

I do like the rear ladder and bumper protection.

Even then, wouldn't it have been easier than all the crazy trussing to just do a proper SAS? You can still paint the axle bright yellow. Toyota built it's SEMA tacoma with a solid front axle - seems like it'd be hard for them to argue against it.

I guess they wanted to keep that smooth IFS ride. :laugh:

The article states it is a "Bulletproof Suspension", so I'm guessing they salvaged a lot of the 10-12" Tacoma lift into the 4Runner front end. According to their website that allows 37-38" tires which is cool but obviously a rear gear will be needed and stability on and off road will go to snot.

I don't think you could ever go off road with 38's and Toyota IFS. I don't think it would last an hour with me behind the wheel.

The 10" kit is about $6k. And bolt on. So I guess for a show truck I might be wrong. It may be cheaper.
 
Ok I DO like the side ladder!

Been trying to figure out how to get a gobi ladder on with my particular rack and rear lights which are really in the way. And I'm getting too old to be jumping up the side from the wheel and back down often.

I was thinking about a removable side ladder design but that looks nice.

There would have to be an expansion joint somewhere between the bumper and rack of course but... Hmmm.

Gives me some motivation to really think this out!

Like the ladder. Out of the way of the rear hatch, looks like it doesn't go thru any sheet metal (I think). Its on the driver's side so its not blocking any view.
 
While the ladder looks good and would be better then nothing it looks like the 1st rung you could get a solid footing on is half way up the rear window.
 
If you follow the link, the pics on the article show there is a ladder on both sides.

I'd have to try it, but I would think the sideways tilt would make it harder to climb... but maybe not.

Yeah the tilt didn't look that bad in the forum photo, but in the article it really is slanted!

I still plan on doing a little prelim work on the idea this weekend and see how it looks, how far it would practically stick out etc...
