Tonneau cover, finished what Toyota started

I was unhappy with how little the tonneau covered so I made extensions (wife did the sewing). It was to easy to see items in the back with the cover closed. This is another thing Toyota cheaped out on compared to the 4th gen which covered the whole area. The 4th gen extensions clipped to the 2nd seat headrest post but I just used the hook side of Velcro to attach it to the carpet area of the back of the seat. I found material a Hobby Lobby that almost matches the tonneau cover perfectly. The back cover is a felt like material that is just clipped to the cover. Total investment around $10. I left extra slack in the front cover so I could slide the second row seat forward some if needed.

Good idea, I just recline the the backseats to fill the gap in the front. Going to try something like yours for the rear.

When I travel I move the second row seats forward several inches to maximize rear storage space and would not have room to tilt the seats back.

Yes. What's up with the gap? I reclined the back seats as well to fill it but my kids didn't like how much they were angled backwards. Strange design in my opinion. I also don't like the molded in slots near the back. It takes me multiple times to line up both sides of the cover to slot it.

I think you hit on it exactly... The gaps are there so the rear seats can recline.

I don't know if the previous gen had reclining seats as well, but I thought the same thing when I put the cover in. Until I realized that they had a reason. I don't understand though why they didn't do something exactly like OP.

My Prius v had a section of fabric that covered the gap and clipped to the head rest post. I didn't care for it because every time I laid a seat down, I was back there reclipping those clips back to the headrest. The reach was deep enough that I'd have to partially get into the cargo area. Our Rav has a tonneau cover similar to the 4Runner. My old 4Runner didn't have a cover at all. I think I liked that best. :cheers:

If I have any light colored items shoved against the 2nd row seatbacks I just throw a dark green tarp over them for camouflage. With tinted windows you can’t see much back there anyway.
