Too good to be true CL ads

2004 V8 AWD LIMITED EDITION. 104k miles. $8500. The ad states the truck does have rust and the bottom has an undercoat. I asked for pictures, but he said the undercoat is hard to take pictures of. He is close by, so I may just go check it out. The pics of the body and interior are spotless.

I wanted a third gen, but the search is excruciating.

What do you guys think?

Sounds like a good enough price but that depends on the amount of rust and where you're at in the country, the price of T4Rs fluctuate from region to region.
 
I'm in SC. From what I can tell, 4runners run high here. That is why I am suspicious of the price.

I guess I can go check it out and have someone inspect it for me. The price gets me a lot more truck on this 04 than what I am seeing third gens go for.

The undercoat worries me. I almost feel like that those are used for a cover up a lot of times. Could it hide some potentially devastating rust that a inspection from a mechanic might miss?

Make sure you have a screwdriver with you and poke at suspected rust areas of the frame, if everything seems solid then move on to the body and check for weak areas as well, also if it has a sunroof open it and check for rust everywhere on the sunroof, the sunroof is expensive to replace and is a problem area with rust, if all still looks good find out if the timing belt and waterpump has been replaced because it's due for those to be replaced with the stated mileage, if not expect to spend $750 to $1000 to have that done, other than that there shouldn't be any other majorly expensive items that might need attention, other than normal wear items such a battery, brakes, tires, shocks, etc.
 
I called the guy and the undercoat was put on about a year ago. Spoke with the mechanic I was going to have check it out and he said it can be hard to locate rust issues with an undercoat.

Seems odd to wait so long to put on an undercoat. Unless its to cover up rust?

Still waiting on VIN.

EXACTLY. Undercoating this late in the game isn't to protect, but to hide flaws in most cases. My 2 cents

I've seen similar ads down here in the Low Country of South Carolina that had mountains in the background, I love mountains and I'm going to find those mountains down here even if it kills me!!!:becky:
