Top Brake Light Working and Not Working

I have the Factory spoiler on my 07 4runner and the brake light was not working. The brake lights work on my regular taillights, so I assumed that I just needed to replace the LED brake light in the spoiler, thinking a bulb went out.

I ordered the light and planned to install it this weekend. However, as my wife backed out of the driveway this morning, it was working. What is going on here.

I checked the fuse, but all brake lights run on the same one so it can't be that. Any other ideas?!

Did you by chance disconnect the wiring to the 3rd brake light? I had the two wires switched.

where is the circuit board?

and no, i never even touched the wire for the light.

I too had the 3rd bake light go out. Found out it was just a conventional lamp in there. Pry on the bottom of lens housing slightly, it will pop out easy. Un-twist the lamp socket from rear of lens housing, swap out lamp, re-install lens housing.... done. Hope this helps.

This doesn't have an incandescent. The brake light within the spoiler is LED. There are two screws behind that removes the light as one unit.

Anyone know where the circuit board is located? Is this behind the panel to the left of the parking brake?

well mine lights up sometimes and off other times....i wonder what could be wrong..was behind my wife the other day...2 out of 5 times she stepped on the brakes...the 3rd brake light came on, the other 3 times it didnt!....what gives?

I had the same problem on my 05 4runner limited with the oem spoiler, I pulled off the rubber tubing behind the rear door and found two splices or connections in the wires that were reversed and just swapped the two connections and it worked, the red connector was swapped with the black one
