Torsion Bars

I want to add a little loft to the front end of my 2003 4Runner and my old roommate suggested adjusting the torsion bars. He did this to his Chevy 1500HD and says he has had no problems with it. Was hoping the guys on here that have done this could either confirm this is a good idea or shoot it full of holes. And even if you haven't done it let me know what you think please. Thanks for the help!

I did this on my old Exploder. I got about 2" out of it. 4Runners use springs instead of torsion bars, so there is no free way to get any lift out of them. The cheapest solution is spacers.

We don't have torsion bars.. So I guess I think it is a dumb idea.

Technically coil springs and your sway bars are both torsion springs but I'm just being an ass.

To the OP as stated you don't have torsion bars on your 4th Gen and ask your buddy how many tie rods and ball joints his 1500HD ate? My 2500HD like most lifted or cranked Chevrolets destroyed steering components.

Ass..:lmao: sways are torsion, regular springs really arent (ie the ended aren't locked to allow more stored energy/ load capacity by twisting) generally torsion has to be twisted to change load ability. :lmao: but I am just being an ass too!

Yes. I cranked my torsion bars on my old s10 back in the mid 90's. I went thru ball joints like I was a manufacturing plant.

Well then I guess a set of spacers it is - thanks for the info. I found some on the toytec website that seem really reasonable priced. What size would make it look level? They have a 2", 2.5", and 3" options. The stock tires are 265/65 and I'm putting 265/70 tires on next week - either Toyo Open Country or Yokohama Geolander A/Ts...any suggestions on either of those tires as well.

Tell your buddy we use these new fangled things called "springs" they tend to make the right a little nicer! :P

But yeah, Spacers are a good start.

2.5 front, 1.5 rear or 3/2, either levels the ride out nicely.
