Totaled motor?

After getting it towed to the shop the only thing the mechanic had to say was "Dios Mios" immediately after popping the hood. Great..

I just bought this truck from a dealership and stupidly figured they would of at least inspected it before selling it! Anyways, i'm in the process of trying to get them to take it back guess i'll see how that goes.

Just had this happen to my truck. No symptoms leading up to the failure. The truck started missing two blocks from home and this is what I found. The cam bolt actually broke.

So far most of my searches are leading to oil starvation as the root cause. I plan to tear down a bit more but wanted to find out the general consensus on repair or replace motor.

If anyone can recommend a trusted supplier for a replacement 3.4 it would be much appreciated.

I haven't seen many people rebuild, but there definitely are some who do. Yota1 has a good reputation for rebuilt engines.

5VZ 3.4L Rebuilt Toyota Engine (Complete) - Yota1 Performance, Inc.

Yota1 lead time is the real killer. I need to get this done before winter and preferably well before.

I think a junk yard motor or JDM will be my best option at getting something quick. A few questions as I look for a motor.

My 4R is Cali spec. Can I still use a Fed Engine as long as I swap over the headers/dual cats/AF sensor or is there more to it that makes a vehicle Cali? For that matter, can I swap to Fed Emissions or do I then need an ECU swap?

If I find a Tacoma motor are there many accessories that need to be swapped over?

Can anyone recommend a salvage yard? Toyotas, especially of this era, are not that prevalent in Michigan.

I understand all accessories and then some need to be swapped over for JDM. Can anyone recommend any JDM shops they had good experience with?

Any other advice as I'm shopping for a motor is appreciated. I'll be doing the work myself and willing to spend 2-3k.

Every 5vz long block is the same. Depending on the source vehicle and year you will have to swap more or fewer things from your current motor over.
