Touch Screen Not responding.

The touch screen on my 2011 Limited 4runner does not responded but still shows the map. Unfortunately it is stuck on north and shows a side ways view unless I am heading north. When I took it to the dealership, they said the entire unit needs to be replaced at the cost of $3,000. Is there anyway to just replace the touch screeen?

Hi Vegas,

First try to FULL RESET the Hard-drive' (Processor). To do this, open the main 'Fuse/relaybox' under the hood. "See the fuse labeled AMP 30A" and pull it. Leave that fuse out for a minimum of four hours; you can still drive the vehicle but you will not have any audio or navi features while the fuse is still out. NOTE: Be sure to leave the fuse out for the full 4 hr duration or it will not work and you'll need to start over from scratch! This will usually work out just fine, 'Best'!

Hi Rig,

I checked the fuse box and did not see a fuse labeled AMP30A, I did see a 50A, 80A and 140A. Any other suggestions.

I was just reading up on this today in the below thread & there are two types of fuse designations for the 5th gen T4R. Don't quote me on this but I think there is a different setup for 2010-2013 & 2014+ or maybe it has something to do with the type of system offered in your rig. However, details are below.

Try looking for RAD-1 (radio 20A fuse) in the same location as the AMP30A.

Try to reset it, if all else fails, remove the battery connections to reset it all. My friend had the same issue in his 16' Lexus, we removed the battery wire for 2mins and it reset and worked again.

Disco at the Batt would work, but you'll disrupt all other settings & may need to have it unhooked for at least 4hrs to clear out the nav system, to reboot the processor. Pulling the fuse will only affect the stereo power & you can still drive without it.

Thanks Jay, I found the fuse you were talking about and mine was a 10A. Im going to leave it out for 4 hours and see if that works as i tried disconnecting the battery which didnt work.

Strange that it's not a 20A fuse? but if there is no power to the HU, then it should work lol. I need to try the same thing when I get home, I was preparing to do this after work (left the fuse puller at home). The links I provided added some good insight to the nav unit & hopefully it'll help with my situation. That's where the discussion of unplugging for at least 4hrs was noted.

Just curious but where did you find this info? I was a Lexus/Toyota tech for 8 years and never heard of anything like this. If the screen was unresponsive, that was it. Not uncommon on older vehicles or those that live in hotter climates. The ones from hotter climates basically fried the screens in the heat of the cabin.

The fuse labeled Rad 10A is there to protect the wiring that supplies 12V power to the radio (Rad), however there's no need pull this fuse to de-energize that circuitry because this circuit is operated by IGN-1 (ignition switch), and so is de-energized whenever the vehicle is turned off (totally redundant)! What you want to do is to de-energize the processor (Hard-drive) where temporary files (History Logs) are stored. These files, much like a neglected windows registry or cache, will lose it's ability to perform properly across time until it is refreshed (cleared and restored to it's default settings).

As far as I know the 2010 through 2013 4Runner are all utilizing a Rad 10A and a AMP 30A (memory) fuse. The 2014 through 2016 models (all trim levels) have had their fuse order, size and designations restructured a bit; which now includes a RAD 20A (memory) and an ACC fuse 7.5 (HOT W/accessory). The reason that I will usually opt to reset the processor 'BEFORE' condemning the hardware is just because it's the most practical way to approach a problem with an Unknown element factored in. Once we've covered all bases and eliminated the possibility of spending money unnecessarily, then I'll begin to move toward the obvious culprit,

PS: The AMP 30A is in the main fuse/Rly box somewhere in the center row of fuses and is GREEN ...take another look; we have the same truck!

I did find the fuse you were talking about and didnt realized the fuse chart was under the fuse cover. When I pulled it and started my truck the gps still came up. Earlier when I pulled the 10a out everything on the screen went off and after 4 hours it didnt help. I am going to leave the 30a out for four hours. Do I need to pull any other fuses. Thanks for all your help!

So the dealership want's $3-grand to replace the head unit, so maybe, an aftermarket unit:shrug:? I have a 2011-Limited, 82k miles, so far so good. Good luck! :thumb:

Before I'd shell out $3K for a new Navi from the dealershit I'd mos-def check out the 4R.org classifieds, ebay and ToyotaParts.com. A lot of guys here on the forum are upgrading their OEM HUs to aftermarket systems with nothing wrong with the factory equipment; I've seen stock hu's selling from four to $600 bucks as recently as two months ago! Just my 0.000000.5 cents!

Firstly, I would advice you to reset it and if it still don't function, remove the battery connection. I ever saw someone do that, luckily, it worked again.However, there is no guarantee. Just curious, where was the touch screen bought from? If it's not from https://comparily.com/best-touch-screen-monitor/ then I doubt that's the major cause of the underlying problem. There is definitely a way of replacing the touch screen, simply visit comparily.com and grab one if you haven't. Thank me later buddy.
