towing 22.5 ft boat with 04 4Runner (v6)

In the thread, it states that if you have WDH, then you can tow 6700 lbs...but that's for a 4x2. I wonder if that changes for a 4x4???? Can anyone with V6 4x4 OM's confirm this??

If I read this correctly..... According to the sticker you need sway control if you tow more than 2K. I think anything you two will be more than 2K....

You don't need sway control to tow a 2,000lb anything....might as well light the money on fire

I agree with north49. Sway is a factor of not having the trailer / load set up correctly. I dont recall with a boat if it is indicative of too much or too little tongue weight, but I know it is one or the other. If the trailer is set up correctly it will not sway!

I think i'm only towing 2500ish usually. I think this is light enough not to need sway control....

I've towed for 2 years and I can't say I ever felt any sway... even in high winds or when semis blow past.....

Depending on your hitch a fiction sway control is only about $ 100.00

And yes if your hitch is set up right you may not need it (depending on the weight).

Just a quick side note if you do get sway and you have electric trailer brakes you can manually "tap" them on on the brake control at speed and they will correct the sway in the camper. (take the belt off your pants and wave it around ........... now picture someone snatching the other end and pulling it tight .... It's the same effect.)

Most often too little tongue weight or too small wheel base on the tow vehicle compared to the trailer length and load.

I tow a 4200 lb boat and trailer (combined weight) over 130 miles each way about 10 times each summer. Now into my 3rd summer, I have not had any issues with my '04 V6. I did have the tranny cooler installed for added protection. A WD hitch like the one on the V8 4Runner will allow you to tow up to 6700 lbs (300 shy of the V8 limit - I guess due to the "limited torque" of the V6).
