Towing 7x14 Aluminum, experiences?

Hi all,

Anyone here tow an enclosed trailer as wide as a 7' trailer, but in Aluminum. I'm not even going to try a steel cause of weight and load after.

Based on my research 6x12 wouldn't be a problem, but i'm seeing what the experience is with a 7 foot wide trailer, dual axle is (the extra room would be nicer if possible)

I'm going aluminum purely for weight and rust. It's going purely for recreational. The great thing about aluminum, it's only 1400lbs, so total with all the toys and equipment it would weight 3000, maybe 3500 on the odd occasion.

7x14, total weight up to 3000~ lbs, doable? Or will it be too unstable to tow. I'm not as worried about the weight (3000lb should be fine right?), but rather the size of the 7x14 with wind drag, our shorter wheel base 4runner, engine etc which makes it less than ideal?

I tow a 7x12 single axle, a 18' Ranger Boat single axle and a 206 Champion Bass boat tandem axle with mine. I've never had an issue between Ohio and Okeechobee Fl.

Just make sure your hitch height is correct. Just a touch high in the front with average load.

300bs is plenty fine. As previous response said, level is best for handling.

Use air bags if necessary. They worked really well on my old Pathfinder where I towed a Uhaul car trailer and a 74 Bronco.

I haul my 6X12 enclosed with the 4runner all of the time and have hauled a 23' bay boat with no problem. And I'm on 285's. Just take it easy and it does fine.

You’ll be fine. We tow our travel trailer which is 19’ in length from hitch ball to rear bumper and a tad over 7’ wide. Weight is 4500 lbs loaded up. It is an airstream so it’s got rounded sides and corners, but it’s 10’6” tall from ground level and the only time I’ve noticed it in wind was this past winter driving through one of the big winter storms we had here in CA when sustained winds were 40 mph. Apart from that, the only time I really notice back there is steep or long grades, but even then a lot of times we still pass semis while remaining below 4000 rpms at most. I will second the air bags. I noticed a marked improvement after we installed them even with the weight distribution hitch we had since getting the trailer.

Def will need to do airbags, sway and weight distribution. Those were on my shopping list plus a brake controller.

Never knew about the hitch height. Good to know.
