the brakes suck on all 3rd gen 4 runners and I'm not sure why people would recommend towing hardly anything behind these vehicles. I was towing my utv and utility trailer (4500 lbs) behind my Tundra and coming down a relatively steep grade and damn bull elk was in the middle of the road. I had to hit the brakes hard to stop in time and keep from killing the Elk and maybe myself but the big ass Tundra did what modern trucks do, stop very well under load. If I had tried that with my 231mm upgraded 3rd gen 4 runner I would killed the Elk totaled the truck and possibly killed everyone in the truck and may be those in the other lane of traffic. I would never trust a 3rd gen with tow duty especially in the mtns.Nope-I have a 2000 and the brakes suck.
