For those that tow small travel trailers or toy haulers, what kind of mirror extensions are you using? There are a few different types and just want to see what others are using.

There are a number of mirrors on the market. Most of them did not perform nearly as well or give the field of vision that the McKesh mirrors do.
This is very important to me because my enclosed car trailer is much wider than my 4Runner.

Do you know if the CIPA add ons are wide enough?
I ask since they are about half the price!

In my case, they did not do a very good job for me with my trailer being as wide as it is (ie 102 inches). Depending on what you intend to tow they might do a better job for you.
I understand your concern about the cost of the McKesh mirrors.
Personally, I think they are worth the extra money because of how much better they perform for me.
The two McKesh mirrors and the two 4Runner mirrors are a very good combination when it comes to covering most of the blind spots associated with towing my trailer.

My toy hauler is 96".
is that still wide enough to need the McKesh mirrors? I want to get the safest option, but if I can safely get by with the CIPA mirrors I'd rather spend less money!

If you can safely tow your trailer using the CIPA mirrors and save some money, why not?
At one point in time the CIPA mirrors were available at Walmart (not sure if they still are).
If so, get a pair mount them on your 4Runner, hook it up to your trailer and see how they work for you.
When testing out these or any mirrors be sure to take the trailer out for a test tow on the roads and highways.
See how the mirrors perform at highway speeds. Do they seem secure at high speeds?
Do they make excessive wind noise that will annoy you on a long trip?
Do they stay where you put them or move around some due to wind resistance and vibration?
Do they provide an adequate view whendriving, parking or backing up your trailer?
